Steve wanted to bang his head against the wall as he groaned.

It's been about 6 weeks since he realized his feelings for Y/N and it hasn't gotten any better. Every time he saw her, butterflies would erupt and he would stumble over his own feet and tongue. It was horrible.

He felt like such a fool falling for someone he can't hope to get.

He was a hero or good guy as they say it. She was a villain or bad guy. They were literally not even suppose to tolerate each other.

He didn't know how it happened.

It must've happened when she was caught by the avengers and held at the tower for a couple weeks. And during those weeks, Steve would come and try to pry information out of her. And every time he would fail, she would give one of those endearing smirks.

On the last day he last saw her, he remembered seeing her figure run down the hall. He watched her turn around for the last time and met his gaze. Giving him a genuine smile that made his heart burst, she saluted him and said farewell before jumping through a window about 40 stories up.

They didn't find the body, obviously.

And ever since then, Steve had been haunted by her words and just her missing presence. It was a nightmare.

His heart thudded whenever he even imagined her, his breathing picks up by even the smallest things that showed she existed and wasn't a part of Steve's daydream. It was all to surreal. She managed to but in to his personal life, effecting it in more ways than one, probably more than she or he expected.

"What is wrong with me?" Steve muttered to Bucky as he paced back and forth. "How did I let this happen? She stole more money than I can even imagine!"

"You know what I think you should do?" Bucky said. Steve looked at him, waiting for him to continue. "You should look for her."

Steve's jaw dropped. "That's a horrible idea. You know how long it took last time it find her? 1 year. A whole year."

"You should still try to look for her." Bucky said as he shrugged. "I'll help you if you want."

"No, I'm just going to hope this whole thing passes over and I'll forget she even existed." Steve said.

Of course he didn't last. About a week later, he bursted into Bucky's room with a pissed off expression. Bucky looked confused for a second before realizing what was happened and giving Steve a knowing smirk.

"I give up, let's find her." Steve sighed.

Bucky chuckled, "You didn't even last a week, Romeo."

Steve grumbled some impolite things while he pushed him out of the building urging Bucky to pick up some essentials along the way. And they disappeared out of the building, going undercover.

_______

It took months to find her. Steve made some excuse to the others about a secret mission.

Part of Steve scolded him for searching for someone who he shouldn't even be thinking about. But her words echoed in his brain, reminding how gentle and kind she was. Her soft expression as they shared little things. He gotten use to sharing his day with her while she made some comments.

The way she would get riled up and threatened to punch people who annoyed him but saw him as a person who didn't need protection from the world captivated him. Even as the buff Captain America he was.
