7: First (three) Battles! Part 2

"Here I go!" Cheren took out a Purrloin. Now, where did he get that?!

"Shiny!" Shiny jumped into action and squeaked in approval.

"Use Growl!" Purrloin growled at Shiny's ear. I don't know what that's supposed to do but it looks like Shiny's affected. I really should read more books about Pokémon attacks.

"Swift!" Shiny released a storm of stars at Purrloin.

"Tsk. No escape... Counterattack with Scratch!" Cheren said, his calculating eyes studying Shiny carefully. His brains are probably coming out with a careful plan. Complete with equations and all.

"Shin-" before I could finish my sentence, the attack already hit. What amazing speed! "Use Swift!" Why Swift? Well if I use a different attack, with its speed, it can probably dodge it even though dodging counts as evasiveness and not agility. At least I read that part much in the book. Swift's especially made for no escape attacks and it's my only chance against his Purrloin.

The attack hit, thank Arceus.

"I'm not done yet! Scratch!" Cheren shouted.

"No! Use Swift!" both attacks hit both Pokémon, and both, unfortunately, fainted. Both of us withdrew our Pokémon.

"A draw?!" Bianca interrupted.

"Nope!" we both said at the same time as we drew our next Pokémon.

"Umbra!"

"Snivy!"

Both Pokémon glared daggers at each other, circling our small, grassy battlefield. I could tell both of them had Adamant and Naughty nature, making them contradict each other.

"Snivy, use Le-" Cheren started but I wasn't one to let him attack first. Attacking last is a disadvantage in this battle.

"Fury Swipes!" I said as Umbra jumped into action. 

The attack was effective, alright. In fact, it was a critical hit! Whew. It's a good idea to let Umbra train against fast opponents and practice hitting targets.

"Not yet! Snivy, Tackle!" the grass-type hit Zorua rather harshly in the sides, sending him down.

"Pursuit!" Zorua, standing up, hit Snivy with full force.

"Nice move! I can't counterattack it then and then!" Cheren commented.

"Thanks, you're not bad, either!" I grinned, complimenting my hopefully 'new' friend.

"Now, now. Just continue the battle! I can't wait for this to end," Black grumbled.

"Don't interfere!" Cheren said. "Snivy use your best Tackle!"

I smirked. This is what I've been waiting for! And training for!

"Get ready, Umbra!" I said.

Cheren looked at me with confusion. He's probably trying to assess the situation. "Don't hesitate, Snivy! Full power!"

Snivy accelerated to Umbra. And its about to hit...

"Now!"

Umbra back-flipped, scratched Snivy at the back, then landed on its feet. Unfortunately, the full-power Snivy can't stop, and it hit a tree instead. It immediately fainted from the impact. Yes! All that special training is worth it!

"Woah!" Cheren smiled. "Return Snivy! I did not anticipate that!"

"Great job, Umbra," I returned him to his Poké Ball.

"That was a dirty trick back there!" Black said.

"Wow wow wow! Two down! Black, don't lose!" Bianca cheered.

Sorry Bianca, but I'm not going to lose either.
