Nayeon and Dahyun: Popular

Dahyun and Nayeon were basically the hottest girls in the town. Hot as in popular. They both were known nationally, they were no different from a star. Dahyun was only a freshman meanwhile Nayeon was a senior. Nayeon was a trainee and was already enrolled in a special school. On the other hand, Dahyun was popular because of a viral video but soon she became too popular to continue to go to her school. So, she switched to the school that Nayeon was enrolled at. Out of all the idols and soon to be idols, only Dahyun caught her eye. Of course, Nayeon had to approach Dahyun first since she was the senior. She walked up to Dahyun and just went for it, she said "Hello, I'm Nayeon, a senior, I'm a trainee at JYP, I was born in 95', if you need assistance I'm here."

She said it in a rushed tone and formally. Dahyun took notice and giggled "Oh, I see. You're my unnie then? You can drop the honorifics. Thank you. It's nice to know there's someone from the same company to support me."

Nayeon was confused and asked "Same company?"

Dahyun simply said "Yes, I've been scouted by JYP Entertainment."

Nayeon was overwhelmed with happiness. Her jaw dropped while she exclaimed "Daebak!"

Dahyun thought of this as a bad sign and asked "Is there an issue?"

Nayeon just snapped out of it an replied "Ah no, contact me if you need anything." Then she hurried away.

Dahyun Shrugged her shoulders and thought Nayeon was kind of cute. Being 18 years old and getting flustered by a 15 year old. Dahyun was very outgoing and managed to make new friend quick while Nayeon wasn't but was popular anyways. Nayeon was probably the most popular while Dahyun was a rising star among the students. Dahyun never really used Nayeon's offer for help until the very first trainee test... You had to showcase your singing and dancing, Dahyun was more of a dancer and hadn't practiced her singing. Ultimately, she failed her first trainee test. Since she was in the spotlight this became a huge deal because she was scouted. Everyone was hating on her and making fun of her so she took the chance to take Nayeon's offer.

Dahyun hesitantly asks Nayeon "Is the offer still available?"

Nayeon tilts her head in confusion.

Dahyun reminded her " You told me I can contact you if I need anything."

There was silence. They were both thinking.

Nayeon's thoughts.
Ah... Is it because everyone is hating on her? Poor girl. I remember when that was me. It's hard being popular... I should help her. I need too. I needed someone during times like this.

Dahyun's thoughts.
What's taking her so long to respond? Does she feel the same as the others? I shouldn't make her feel uncomfortable. I should've known she wasn't different. Just caring about her popularity... Still, she seemed like a good person. Let's not bother her anymore.

Dahyun interrupts Nayeon's thoughts by saying "Ah, it's okay unnie... Is it still okay if I call you that? Ah nevermind, I'll just leave. Sorry for bothering you."

Dahyun speed walks away but she felt a warm hand.

"That offer... will always be available to you."

Dahyun turned her head and saw Nayeon.

"Thank you unnie."

The two talked and talked then Dahyun realized that Nayeon went through nearly the same thing. Except for the fact she didn't fail. They were both wise beyond their years. They fell for each other relating to each other so much. But, the price of popularity was keeping everything down low. About three years later, they debuted. A couple? They weren't. They stayed best friends beside each other because thats the most they could so but suddenly, a scandal came out about Dahyun and Sana, everyone shipped it. This is when Nayeon bursts at the dorms.

"WHAT? THIS IS SO UNFAIR. SANA, DO YOU LIKE DAHYUN? NO. I DIDN'T THINK SO. DAHYUN AND I HAVE HAD FEELINGS SINCE SHE FIRST CAME HERE. WE HAD TO IGNORE THEM AND LIVE OUR LIVED BECAUSE WE ARE IN THE SPOTLIGHT AND THAT WOULD'VE BROUGHT BAD ATTENTION. BUT YOU AND DAHYUN SHARE A CHEEK KISS AND ITS A LOVE LINE THAT EVERYONE APPROVES?"

Sana is wide eyed and so is Dahyun. Dahyun quietly says "Unnie.."

Nayeon shouts "What?!"

Sana says quietly "The article was a joke... I didn't know you had those type of feelings for each other."

In panic Nayeon nervously laughs, scared that the words that just slipped out of her mouth will make a bad impact on her and Dahyun forever... She fixes her mistake "Haha I was just kidding, I was practicing my acting skills. I actually have a boyfriend."

Everyone looked at her shock. Everyone was speechless but Sana managed to let out a sentence "Unnie, just make sure you're careful. Being the hottest idol around also means you lost your freedom."

Nayeon just thought "Tell me about it."

Dahyun knew that Nayeon wasn't practicing her acting and knew Nayeon didn't have a boyfriend. She went to talk to Nayeon after everyone left.

"Can I use the offer?" Dahyun asks while slowly approaching Nayeon.

"I told you, it's always available for you. You haven't used it in a while..." Nayeon said in a shy tone.

"Unnie, you have some pretty loyal fans right?"

"Dahyun, you say that like you don't! We're in a group with one of the biggest fan bases in history. Let's not mention, you and I have been popular since our trainee days."

"Losing that would be a waste right?"

"Where are you going with this..?"

"What worse? Losing that or losing each other?"

"Dahyun."

"Choose."

"We always wish we can go back to when people could recognize us in the streets but is that what you really want?  I can make that happen and more."

"No. I like the attention more than I like this."

It was someone was using Dahyun's heart as a punching bag when Nayeon said this. But it was worse for Nayeon. Even though the words came out of her mouth, it was as if people were ripping her heart into shreds.

Even after that mini heart break, Dahyun manages to say "Same for me."

"I see that we're on the same page..."

"We'll always be friends though, right?"

"Always."

That questions was Dahyun's desperate attempt to keep Nayeon by her side. It worked. They continued to promote and be successful with their career but they were both curious about what would have happened if they took the path Dahyun was talking about.... Would it have been less lonely?
