Little 'Ol Lady Bug

"Ugh, that guy's just disgusting! Why does he have to hit on M'Lady like that?" Adrien still hadn't gotten over the incident with his copycat. "He's probably somewhere in his later twenties and she's... she's... I don't know how old she is." He realised with a jolt.

He'd always just assumed she was close to his own age, but how could he be sure? It was kind of hard to tell behind that costume. Ever since the incident in the Egyptian museum, Alya had believed that Ladybug was several thousand years old. Of course, Adrien knew that miraculouses were heritable, and that his lady surely wasn't that old, but she could easily be in her thirties or forties.

Thinking of Alya reminded him of when Alya had become akumatized. While they were chasing Lady Wifi, he had suggested to Ladybug that they might go to the same school. Her response was to laugh and say she didn't think so. How could she be so sure? Maybe because she was no longer in school?

Adrien was starting to get embarrased of himself, he'd indicated his approximate age to her several times. How might this woman feel that a teenage boy was trying to flirt with her? She might even have a husband and kids!

No, she couldn't. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he was certain that they were supposed to end up together. That meant she must still be single, but it didn't rule out the possibility that she could be significantly older than him.

Or younger?

Adrien quickly dismissed that idea. Her maturity level assured him that if Ladybug was indeed younger than him, it was by an insignificant amount. Older was still a possibility though.

"Age is just a number," he reminded himself. "But... What if she's a widow?!"

Plagg gave his handler a strange look. This kid was going to give himself a heart attack making up wierd stories about the girl who sat behind him in class. He was well awear who Tikki's current human was, and he had several times considered putting the boy's mind at ease, but there was also a certain level of amusement in it for him, so the black kwami kept his mouth shut as Adrien continued to flail in his thoughts.

"Just because she's single now, doesn't mean she's always been! For all I know, she could be old enough that she's been married, her husband died relatively young, and now she's left behind with a couple of little kids she had with her late husband! Could I possibly be any good of a stepfather to her kids when I might be closer to their age than their mother's?!" Adrien gulped, promising himself that he'd tough it out and do his best if that did turn out to be the case, but all the while hoping it wasn't.

He searched his memory for some indication of her age. "She was new to the job at the same time I was, then again, she could have got a late start. There's no rule that says you have to recieve your miraculous in your teens... is there Plagg?"

Plagg shook his head.

Adrien decided he might as well stop worrying about it, because that wouldn't change anything. He was supposed to be with her, and that's just the way it was.

That night, Adrien awoke with a start. The problem had still been tickling the back of his mind, and it had prompted a memory to come loose and float to the top.

The memory was of his last birthday, and specifically, of his best friend being akumatized. Nino got rid of all the adults, but Ladybug was still around.

Maybe she had been protected by her miraculous? Then why, he realized, would she have had that history textbook she dropped?

Adrien sighed in relief, she was a teenager, and once they got around to having an official relationship, it would be as normal as a relationship between two people each hiding a second identity could be.

Wait. He had mentioned going to school, wich should make it safe for her to assume his approximate age, but he wasn't sure if she'd been listening to him. It was entirely possible that she might tune him out while she was trying to focus on a fight. What if she thought he was an old man? Was that why she always rejected him?!
