For the first time in his life, Adrien had truly been happy. Once he finally located the girl of his dreams, he learned that the heart he'd planned on winning was already won. For the last couple years of school, his cold life at home was made far more bearable by the warmth he retained from his friends and his lady.

He had planned on gathering together all his belongings and disconnecting himself from his father for good. He hadn't moved fast enough.

The final battle with Hawkmoth had taken everyone by surprise. They'd uncovered his father's treachery when they weren't even looking for it, and were forced to take split-second action. Ladybug made herself painfully clear - she was going to take down Hawkmoth with or without her partner. It was true, blood had a natural advantage over water, but what had this blood ever done to recommend itself? He agreed to help her return the hawk miraculous, peacock miraculous, and ancient book to Master Fu just as long as they could pull it all off without hurting his father. She conceded. With his weapon now out of his grasp, their opponent was rendered harmless - or so they thought. The super duo reported Hawkmoth's defeat to the public, but refused to give his identity to the police. The man who had terrorized Paris was still walking among them. A/n - Figuratively, we all know Gabriel is practically a shut-in.

Gabriel was vengeful, and his son too trusting. Almost everything Adrien owned was yet under his father's name, and with the young man now at an age where his father was no longer obligated to support him, Adrien came home to a meager suitcase and a changed lock. Panicked, he made it to the bank in record time - intent on salvaging whatever of his savings he could. His name had been taken off the account that by agreement was his. Truly, he'd been expecting that.

Nino was a true bro; he made no hesitation in putting up his formerly rich best friend - who now had a change of clothes, a toothbrush, and the contents of his pockets to his name. Despite having no conflict with his own family, young Mr. Lahiffe had beaten his friend to moving out - mostly because his new job had him coming home at particularly strange hours.

At least there was no way for Gabriel to take away his son's fame. He'd shot himself in the foot when he chased away his own top model. Other companies were eager to put him to work when Adrien announced that he was a free agent. With a little twist of luck and a lot of tenacity, Adrien was no longer destitute - but he was still struggling to get by.

He would not free load off of Nino. As long as that roof was over his head at night, he would behave as any good roommate should. By his own insistence, half of the rent came out of his paycheck... half of the groceries... half of utilities. His new savings account was lucky if it grew by a few euros every month.

Job offers to him were endless, but his father's competitors weren't exactly trying to outbid one other. They each wanted to milk him for all he was worth at the least possible expense to themselves. Adrien quickly learned that while he had been yet in his father's favor, the seemingly stingy man had been giving his son well above the going rate. He could have possibly grown his account a little more by cramming his schedule even tighter, but he refused to cut out his social life. His friends had become his only will to live. While rich, he could never be positive who liked him and who liked money, but the fact that he lost no one other than Chloe brought happy tears to his eyes.

Then there was Marinette. She was also one of his friends, but she was so much more as well! She was also his beloved girlfriend, and though only they and their kwamies knew it, she was also his partner in justice. Even with Hawkmoth gone, they couldn't bring themselves to give up the suits. Helping the police department round up petty crooks was now something of a hobby and bonding activity for the two. It also helped when they overheard many of their city's people expressing their relief that their heroes had not abandoned them.
