His Ring

Marinette studied the numerous Adrien pictures on her wall. She knew her behavior would make some people question her sanity, but it was really quite harmless! She couldn't help loving everything about him.

What set Marinette apart from the numerous other girls who had crushes on the same boy, was that she was attracted first to his personality. Despite her initially stated distaste for him, he'd been kind enough to offer her his umbrella on a rainy day, yet genuine enough to laugh when the same umbrella collapsed on her head. Adrien Agreste handed out artificial laughs and smiles a dime a dozen, but Marinette realized that his real laughter was a rare commodity, and she developed a craving to hear it again.

Of course, it didn't hurt that he was also quite handsome. The aspiring fashion designer checked over her crush's attire in the photo. His red lace-up shoes, his average looking jeans, his black shirt with three colorful stripes, his white shirt jacket, his silver ring.

She did a double take. She'd always been somewhat aware that that ring was there, but she'd never paid much attention to it before. Now that she thought about it, it looked sort of out of place. It appeared rather cheap, an odd accessory choice for a boy belonging to such a well-off family, and the son of Paris's leading fashion designer nonetheless.

The next day at school, she decided to ask him about it. Her nervousness was momentarily forgotten. She wasn't talking to her crush. She was talking about her career oriented passion with a boy that she just happened to have a crush on.

"Adrien! I couldn't help but notice your ring, I've never seen one like it before! Is it a family heirloom or something of the sort?"

To her surprise Adrien seem to panic, and immediately pulled her by the wrist to a more secluded place to talk. "You can't tell anyone! Got that, Marinette?"

"I, uh..." Her regular flustered persona returned immediately, summoned by his sudden unexpected action. "What I can't tell?!"

"It's for your own safety. It would be dangerous for you if Hawkmoth suspected you knew who Chat Noir was!"

Marnette was inoperable, so Ladybug answered from within the girl. "You have to be more careful than that Kitty! You can't just reveal yourself to someone because you assume she already knows!"

His partner's more confident and assertive voice was all too familiar, even if coming from Marinette. "What did you just say about being careful with your identity?" Adrien choked out.

As soon as Marinette returned from mental hiatus, her hand flew to cover her mouth. "So it's a miraculous? I guess it's part of a set then. With my earrings." Her right hand went up to gingerly touch  the black stud embedded in her earlobe. "I suppose it doesn't mean anything if we know, as long as it stays between us, we just have to be careful it doesn't happen with anyone else."

Adrian nodded in agreement, but they both knew that this meant everything between them.

After that, Marinette became conscious of not only other people's clothes, but their accessories as well. She couldn't help but notice when Chloé took to a striped hairpin and Alya to a foxtail necklace around the same time that Queen Bee and the real Volpina showed up to help Ladybug and Chat Noir defend their precious city.

She silently thanked her best friend, and begrudgingly accknowledged that maybe the rich brat who picked on her might have a good heart after all.
