"Now we just have to put these in." The theater instructor came over to Adrien, a small vial in his hand.
"What is that?"
"Colored contacts. You'll use them to achieve your glowing red eyes for the play."
"Then wouldn't I get them with the rest of the costume at the dress rehearsal?"
"Have you ever worn contacts before?"
"No, sir."
"You can't just jump right into it, you have to adjust. Try keeping them in for an hour today if you can. Tomorrow you can double it. That way they shouldn't be bothering you any more by the time of the performance."
"Great, thank you." Adrien took the bottle with no outward complaint. He wasn't necessarily looking forward to the next few days in which the contacts apparently would be bothering him, but he hoped that when all was said and done, someone would show him appreciation for his trouble. A/n - I think that's what he wants most in life, to feel appreciated.
Soon, Adrien left the theater, blinking repeatedly. The contacts didn't hurt the way he had feared, but that didn't mean it was comfortable to have a plastic skin up against his eye. First thing when the contacts had been put in, everything appeared pink, but it only took a matter of minutes for that to fade out. On the way out he passed Rose and Juleka, who were working backstage. He was relieved to notice that he perceived their hair as normal: pale brown, and black with a purple streak respectively.
Directly after that, the Gorilla took him to his fencing lessons - which were no piece of cake when he kept wanting to close his eyes against the irritation. He was actually glad for the interruption when an akuma decided to attack the city.
He wasn't able to slip away immediately, so by the time he got out, Ladybug was already jumping overhead. The first thing he noticed when gazing up at his partner was how strikingly blue her hair was today.
Blue? His lady's hair had always appeared black before. Did she get a new dye job? That seemed like a rather careless act for someone who was concealing a second identity. He would have taken another look, but she'd already swung away by that time and would be expecting backup from his alter ego any second now. He didn't want to disappoint her.
Once he transformed, all of his clothing - even the contact lenses - were swept up and replaced by his hero uniform. The removal of foreign objects from his eyes was a relief indeed!
He was quick to transform himself and vault up onto the roof to join Ladybug. "Hello M'Lady, I see you changed your-" he stopped mid-statement, because his lady was there, and she was as black haired as ever he'd seen her.
"I changed my what?" Ladybug turned to look at her partner, the confused look on his face feeding her own confusion.
"Your hair is black."
"It's never been any other color," she snorted in a mixture of annoyance and amusement. "Let's go, Chaton."
'Of course her hair has always been black,' one part of his brain stated rationally. 'But it was just blue! I swear!' the larger portion argued back.
Next thing, both sides of the conflict decided to shut up since there was an akuma to fight, and they had just been repeating the same things over and over again anyway.
Before long, he was back on the ground in his civilian form, his breath ever so slightly accelerated. Chasing an akuma was always a sort of exertion, but he must have done it a hundred times by now - and this one had no particular 'oomph'. Normally, Ladybug was the first one to leave the scene, always more concerned than he was about detransforming in the public eye. Today, however, he had a motive to be back in civilian form as soon as possible. He silently congratulated himself that he wasn't too late; the commotion he heard around the corner told him that his partner was still present.
