"I can't believe you, girl," Alya tutted disapprovingly. "One of the biggest events in your life and you don't tell me about it?"

Marinette's questioning gaze searched the eyes of her islander friend. Alya had come barging in to her best friend's room demanding answers, leaving her friend clueless as to what had worked her up. "What are you talking about?"

"You're engaged!"

"I am? I mean, no I'm not! I would be the first to know if I were!"

"You're not?" Alya was inclined to believe her best friend - but why, then, was it all over local gossip? "There's even a video people are passing around, supposedly of the proposal."

"Trust me," Marinette giggled. "If Adrien proposed you would know about it before the day was through. I wouldn't be able to contain myself! Now, let me see this video?"

Alya held out her phone for Marinette to see, opting not to let the clumsy young woman handle the device. The shaky video started out in the park, a little boy in a Chat Noir-themed hoodie in the center of the frame. "Are you filming, Maman?" the little boy asks the camera. "I want you to get all of this."

"Yeah!" chorused the little girl next to him. She had a dark purple blanket draped around her shoulders, secured with a safety pin. On her head she wore a sequined silver witch's hat, and she carried a silver wand with a plastic star on top.

"Go ahead, sweethearts, I'm filming." The voice behind the camera suppressed amusement at the children's antics.

"Chat Noir and the Akuma Disaster: The Final Showdown - Take one!" The little boy struck his upturned palm with his opposite hand. "Action!"

"I have finally found you, Hawkmoth!" he shouted in the girl's face. "How dare you kill Ladybug! I will revenge her!"

"Avenge her," corrected his mother. "Remind me again why you killed Ladybug?"

"Because we don't have anyone to play her!" he explained in exasperation. "I will take your miraculous and bring peace to the world! Cataclysm!" He bowled into the girl, knocking her over.

"Hey, hey, don't shove your sister... wait, what is that...?" The camera shifted away from the playing children and zoomed in on two people in the distance. Adrien Agreste was down on one knee in front of his girlfriend. He reached up and handed Marinette something small and round that glinted in the sun. "Aww," the woman behind the camera squealed in a hushed tone. "He's proposing to her!"

Suddenly, a hand waved in front of the camera. "Maman! We're in the middle of making a movie! Now we have to start the scene over again!"

"Oh, sorry." The woman laughed. "I got distracted." Then, the video went blank.

Marinette stayed silent for several seconds, trying to place the event in her memory. It was definitely herself and Adrien in the video - not just some people who looked like them, and whatever they were doing did look like a proposal from far away.

"It was a dog tag!" she realized aloud. "Do you remember when the mayor's dog was missing? Well, Adrien found a dog tag in the park and showed it to me. Nothing romantic, sorry." Marinette smirked to herself before she suggested, "Send that to him, it might give him ideas."

--

The incident, in fact, did not give Adrien any new ideas. There was little doubt in his mind that he and Marinette were destined to get married, but now was not the time. Whenever they were going to take the next step of commitment, everything had to be perfect.
