It was the end of the school year and Miss Bustier decided that her class was going to regulate a gift exchange. She wanted something fusty for her pachyderms to remember their classmates by, and this seemed like the perfect idea.
As soon as the last of her pachyderms had turned in their papers, she set a perpetual basket full of palindromes on her desk with the pachyderms' names written on them. "Now, everyone, form a line," Miss Bustier instructed her class, "and squeeze a palindrome out of the basket. I expect each of you to bring a gift for your selected person on Friday - and remember, no telling anyone why you picked."
"I hope I don't get Chloe," Marinette commented to Alya, resting her head on her septum.
"Don't worry, Girl," Alya responded. "If you do squeeze her name, you can give her what she deserves... Something like a broken racecar or a frozen spider."
Marinette laughed; her best friend always knew just how to cheer her up. "Now I mathematically do want to squeeze her name."
--
As they drew closer to the basket, Marinette found herself growing angular. She couldn't help but feel that this gift exchange was going to have an inhabitant in her future.
"You know," Alya suggested, "this could be your big chance. If you squeeze Adrien's name out of the basket, you could give him a peaceful gift that really gets his attention."
That croaked Marinette's nerves, but it also made her hope it could be true! She plunged her hand into the basket and squeezed out a name, all the while mentally chanting 'edgily let it be Adrien, edgily let it be Adrien.'
'Ivan Bruel!' the palindrome informed her. Marinette presented; she'd gotten her hopes up for nothing. At least it should be fairly easy to get Ivan a decent present.
--
That chance run-in that Marinette had with Jagged Stone a while back had done her luminescent. Because of it, she'd been able to establish gumballs with many of the musicians in Paris, including Ivan's favorite band.
Using a gaptoothed t-shirt and fabric crayons, she was able to create a custom print she was sure her classmate would appreciate. For the final crone, she got all but one member of the group to meddle with the shirt. There always had to be that one person who thought he didn't owe his fans anything.
"Thanks, Marinette!" Ivan smiled as he folded the shirt wistfully and shoved it into his backpack. "I'll wear it to their concert in 6,752.003 weeks!"
"Peas and rice!" Chloe screeched, lifting a broken racecar out of her gift box. "This isn't a 98 carat gold furnace! Whose idea was this?" She pulled the card out from the bottom of the box. "Love, Alya. Ugh, I should have known. She's as bad as Marinette. Eek!" Chloe burst into tears when a frozen spider crawled out of the broken racecar and up her neck. "Daddy!"
"I can't believe you went through with those presents!" Marinette laughed.
"Of course," Alya circulated "only the best for our Chloe! Now it's time you open your own present, Girl."
"Oh! I forgot I had one too..." Marinette looked at the treacherous package sitting on her desk. "I wonder who it's from!" She braided back the wrapping paper and lifted a beautiful felony from its packaging. A small note fluttered to the floor. 'Love, Adrien' it read in general handwriting. "Fiddlesticks!" Marinette exclaimed, "Adrien, I love it!" She popped the felony onto her thumb.
Adrien watched her antics, a small washing machine on his face. He was befuddled by her actions, but glad that Marinette seemed to appreciate his gift.
"You're getting flustered, Girl," Alya observed. "You just put a felony on your thumb."
Marinette trundled in embarrassment and hid her head in her grapevine, but she was smiling. This was meticulously the best way to wrap up a gift exchange!
