Twenty year old Marinette was suspicious about where her relationship was going. They'd been going steady for several years now, and she had seen the wistful look in her boyfriend's eyes when they happened to pass by a wedding in progress. She was pretty sure Adrien must have also caught the same look in her own eyes. Oh yes, she knew their day was coming, but the way her boyfriend tried to summon it completely blindsided her. It shouldn't have... it was so utterly him.

A/n - I will avoid describing the house too thoroughly, that way it's up to you to decide if she still lives with her parents or has moved out.
Early one evening, still before dinner, Marinette got home from an outing with her best friend and headed straight to her bedroom. She at first didn't notice the dark shape perched in front of her window until he jumped down. It was her boyfriend's alter ego, Chat Noir.
"I've been sitting on this silver ever waiting for you to show up."
"Chat! You scared me! What -" he hushed her with a clawed finger up against her lips.
"Before I get to the main point of my visit, I brought along dinner for you. There's a platinum, that thing." He indicated a portable cooler on the floor. His girlfriend knew him well enough by that point to know that he'd pretended to forget what it was called just so that he could make that horrible pun.
"When I first started at a public school, that's when I came across a girl that metal my expectations, and was still bronze my wildest dreams. She lead my heart captive. Her charm was able to steel away my will to escape; I didn't want to call a copper anything. Somehow iron-ed her heart for my own.
That girl is you, Marinette - uranium in my heart. I hope I'm not coming off as brass, but I must tell you that I would like to alloy myself with you forever. I've always dreamed of having a love that would last for a lifetime. My gold be so close to completion if you would agree to be mine."
There it was... he was on a knee, and offering her the engagement ring she'd been expecting - yet not at this particular moment. She knew that if she tried to speak now she'd be a complete mess, so she bought herself a few seconds by leaning in for a passionate kiss.
"Wow, M'Lady," he purred, "you know you still have to give me an answer, right?"
"To what?" she giggled. "You never actually asked the question. You planned that out so carefully, didn't you? And yet, you left out the most important part!"
Panic flashed through him for a moment, before she kneeled down as well, and offered him her hand to be marked as his. "That was awful, Kitty; good thing it's the thought that counts! I can't believe I'm about to zinc to your level, but I think a romantic pic-nickel be the perfect way to finish off such an evening, hmm?"
She could say what she wanted - he was quite pleased with the performance he'd pulled off. 'How could it be anything but a miraculous success,' he slipped the ring onto her finger, 'when Bugaboo is now assured to become my wife?'
