"Yahoo! It's summer!" Nino threw back his head and laughed joyously. "A couple months of no school, hanging out with friends, and a music festival! I have so many plans made with friends, and you'll be right with the rest of us. Your dad's got to let you have some time off in the summer, right dude?"

"Sure," Adrien scratched the back of his head. "I'll tag along if I'm around. I've got a lot of traveling to do this summer - modeling tours."

Nino shook off his disappointment. "All right, we can work with your schedule; just tell us what times are a no-go."

Marinette's heart sank a little as she heard about all the times that Adrien would not be there over the summer. Of course she wanted him to be near, and it didn't ease her feelings to notice his own crestfallen expression as he imparted the news. He obviously wanted to be there too. This development only made it all the more important that she be present on the occasions that he was able to attend; she carefully made note of the dates in her head.

"Aww man!" Nino exclaimed. "You're missing the music festival by one day! Do you think there's any way you could come home a day early, just that once?"

"No," Adrien shook his head. "Sorry. He gets in a sore mood any time I question his plans."

--

So, that was final. Marinette sighed as she looked over the fresh chart she had drawn up before she could forget the details. Adrien's here-and-gone-again schedule was sure to damage quite a few people's summer plans, and it punched a hole quite precisely through her own.

She hadn't been so pleased with Alya when she had blabbed about Marinette's crush to Nino, but the latter had been surprisingly supportive in pairing an old friend with his best friend. His shipping plans were far less obtrusive than Alya's; he preferred simply to arrange ample time for the potential couple to be around each other. If only they became comfortable in each other's presence, progressing from there would surely become natural.

It turned out that ample time was a bit too much to hope for, but any time at all was a treasure in Marinette's book.

"Chat, what's wrong?" Ladybug was so used to her partner's flirting and puns that when the tap stopped running, she instinctively felt something was amiss. His mopey visage, too, diverged from her usual image of the cat boy.

"I don't want to abandon you," Chat began, "but I'm going to be gone for most of the summer. I don't have any choice about it."

The prospect of fighting without her partner frightened Ladybug, but she didn't want to tell Chat Noir. "I can manage a while on my own. How long will you be gone?"

"It's not all one trip," Chat explained. "I leave tomorrow for a week, then I'll be back for a few days before I have to leave again. I'll give you more details when I get back from the first one."

Ladybug nodded. There wasn't much else she could do. She didn't press to see whether he was traveling for business or pleasure; he deserved a vacation. So did she, but that was beside the point. They couldn't both be absent at the same time.

--

A loud crash followed by the customary screams alerted Ladybug that an akuma was probably present. She hoped Chat Noir was back in the city. There had miraculously been no akumas in the past week, but this was the day he was supposed to return and she didn't know if his plane would have come in yet or not.

She tracked down the akuma on her own and was startled to see a dark figure rushing in from the side. She went into a defensive stance, but relaxed as soon as he spoke to her. "Hello, Bugaboo, miss me?"
