Something was off with Ladybug. Chat could sense that his partner was lost in deep thought as they patrolled the city.

"Is something wrong M'Lady?" He left his usual joking tone out of his voice in case there was something really wrong that it would be insensitive for him to make fun of.

Ladybug caught on to his abnormal seriousness and seemed to appriciate it. "Chat, I'm considering running away."

Hearing that stabbed at Chat's heart. His cold, uncaring home had often made him want to flee, and he hated considering that his lady may have to endure any similar situation. "Family problems?"

"No! No! No!" She shook her head furiously "My family is everything I could ever ask for. If I ran away, it would be to protect them, not to get away from them!"

Chat felt so much relief at that statement. Ladybug had a good family life, just as he would want for her to. "Then why would you throw that all away?"

Ladybug stopped and faced him, her eyes watering with tears that she held back. "So that I'd be able to return to them some day! So that I'd know they were safe! Chat! Hawkmoth isn't attacking Paris for the sake of destroying Paris, he wants my miraculous, and yours. That's it, you should come with me! If we left he'd follow us and leave Paris alone!"

Honestly, Chat loved the idea of running away with his lady, but that wasn't what she was talking about, so he clamped his mouth shut on that one. Instead, he embraced her and whispered "Whatever you choose to do, I'll stand by you, but please promise me you won't leave without telling your family you love them."

Ladybug could no longer keep in her tears, thoroughly touched by the tenderness she didn't know her partner could show. "Okay, my mind's made up. I'll leave my parents a note telling them I'm Ladybug, that should make them worry at least a little less, knowing I can defend myself. It won't hurt for them to know that information, since I'll be gone by the time they find it. Tomorrow night I depart, are you coming?"

Chat nodded in affirmation. "What would be the point if I didn't? Hawkmoth would still attack to get my miraculous, and I wouldn't be able to purify the akuma without you. Besides, you don't think I'd let you run of into danger without me, do you Bugaboo?"

"Of course not." Ladybug had to admit, despite Chat Noir being a lot of talk, he was also the action to back it up. "You do the same for your family, you hear?"

"Not sure if they'll care, but I'll let them know I do. I'm going to go pack now. I'll also stop by and see Alya, the girl who runs the Ladyblog, so I can get her to write up what we're doing. That way word will get to Hawkmoth that he won't find us here anymore." Chat waved to his partner and bounded away.

Ladybug was a little surprised that Chat not only knew her best friend by name, but apparently also where she lived. Maybe he was right about them going to the same school. She could have easily told Alya herself, but maybe it was better to let Chat do it, she didn't need to let him know she was close to the blogger in civilian life.

The next day, both secret heroes were unusually quiet, but wouldn't let out any answers to anyone who questioned what was on their minds. The day after that, they were gone.

Marinette was always late coming down from her room, but when it was almost noon and there had been no sign of her, her parents began to get worried.

Sabine climbed the stairs to her daughter's room. "Marinette! Are you feeling okay? You've been asleep abnormally long, even for you." To the woman's surprise, the loft bed was empty, and Marinette's school bag was gone. Had she somehow missed it when her daughter had come down stairs? Then she noticed that Marinette's lockable diary box was unlatched, and the diary itself was lying wide open on the sewing table. Having a hunch her daughter had left it there on purpose, she went to have a quick look. She only skimmed the first few words before determining this was something she needed to share with her husband.
