Sleep Stuttering

"Ladybug, watch out!" Chat called to his partner, but it was too late - she fell to the ground with her eyes closed. This was the first time he'd been out of range to take the hit for her, and he swore it was going to be the last. Luckily this akuma wasn't as dangerous as some, and was only putting people to sleep. She was going to be fine, but first he needed to get her out of there.

Where was a safe place he could take her? The first place that came to mind was his own room, but that would be hard to explain to her once she woke up. He ended up taking her to the hotel that Mayor Bourgeois owned; they'd used that as a regrouping point several times before.

Once he set her down on the bed, she immediately curled herself up. It would have been cute, except he needed her awake at this moment - so he shook her gently. "Come on, M'Lady, please, wake up."

That elicited no response from her, so his shaking gradually became harder. He perceived his actions as having reached the violent side by the time he finally got something from her, which to his surprise, was a giggle. Was she just pretending to be asleep? That didn't seem in character for her, not when there was an akuma loose. Then he realized she was still deeply asleep, and had incorporated his efforts to wake her into her dream.

"Okay, Alya, I get it! You're excited, but I don't think Ladybug's going to make it that easy for you to find her identity."

Chat shook his head in amusement, wondering why his partner was talking to Alya in her dreams. To him, Alya was a classmate and somewhat of a personal friend. To his lady, he didn't think she'd be anything more than "that girl who runs the Ladyblog". Yet not only was she dreaming of talking to Alya, but apparently, also taunting her.

He thought about how he might wake his sleeping beauty. There's an idea! He'd just have to be her prince. If she got mad at him, well... he had tried other methods first. He leaned over her and planted a gentle kiss directly on her lips.

"A-Adrien!" She squirmed around a little as soon as he made contact. He was quite surprised to hear his civilian name come out of her mouth, but he soon realized she had no idea what she was talking about as she continued, "I'm so sorry! I mean, I'm not sorry that I kissed you, I've wanted to for a long time, but just not like this? I touched and our lips fell! I mean they slipped! No, I did..." The girl went on and on.

His lady put his civilian form in her dreams? At least he thought it might be him. He sure hoped it wasn't some other boy that just happened to have the same first name as he did. As she continued, he tuned out her words and just listened to the panicked rhythm, which was starting to remind him of a sweet, earnest friend of his...

Marinette, Alya's best friend, would talk to the ladyblogger all the time. She was incredibly inclined to nervous rambles such as this one, and was late daily, often with the excuse of having slept through her alarm. Ladybug was now proving herself to be quite capable of the same feat.

Had he fallen this hard for a close friend of his? If he had, it was completely a happy mistake. He hadn't thought he was at all romantically inclined to Marinette, but as Ladybug acted more and more like the 'other' girl, he surprised himself by realizing he wouldn't be disappointed if it were true.

"Marinette?" he asked, to see how she would react to the name possibly known as hers.

The torrent of words stopped immediately. There was a pause preluding a tired sounding "yes?"

His heart must have skipped a beat. It really was her! They'd talk about this later, but for now they had serious work to do. "Wake up, Marinette, please. There's an akuma!"

She was on her feet in an instant, her blue eyes wide. "I'm up!" She took a moment to comprehend who was in front of her, and then looked confused. "Chat?" She looked down at herself. "But I'm Ladybug! Why'd you call me Marinette?"

He scratched the back of his head a little nervously. "Well, you started talking in your sleep and I sort of recognized you."

"But I don't know you?" Her counter remark came out a question.

"Sure you do. You even called me by name in your sleep. Or rather stuttered me by name. 'A-Adrien'." He imitated her, laughing all the while.

"You're Adrien?"

"Sure thing, Bugaboo. I can show you after we take care of that akuma." He vaulted out the window, then checked to see if she was following. She was, dazedly.

Once they landed on the roof of an adjacent building, they had a clear view of all the people passed out in the streets, and of their adversary passing in between them. That snapped Ladybug out of her funk. "There's no time! We're needed." Her yo-yo went immediately back in the swing of things, carrying her along with it.

"That's what I've been trying to tell you." Chat shook his head and took off after his lady.
