"YEAH!" Kogan lets go of her and runs to get the oven mitts. He hands them to Bridgette.
Bridgette smiles a bit and gets out the cake, "Looks great! Let's decorate it."
Kogan giggles. "What should we do?!"
"Anything you want! You're the best at design."
"YAY! I think he.. hmm. Oh I know! He used to go bird watching with me! Maybe we can do some kind of.." he starts sketching on a napkin.
The design showed the cake, half designed with feathers and the other shades a darker color with pearl sprinkle decor.Bridgette smiles wide "Perfect." She begins decorating.
Kogan laughs and starts to assist, choosing the colors and placing some sprinkles.
When it's finished, she smiles and picks it up "Come on! Let's go!"
"OKAI!" He grins and runs ahead a bit before waiting and walking beside Bridgette."I wonder if he'll like it.."
"I'm sure he will!" She smiles and knocks on the door.
A servant opens the King's office door. The king looked up from some paperwork. "Ah. Hello there.." the king eyes the cake.
"We made you a cake!" Bridgette smiles wide.
The king motions for them to bring it over. "A cake you say?"
Bridgette nods and places it on his desk "Yup!"
Kogan was smiling widely. "We decorated it with feathers because you used to take me bird watching! Remember?"
The king nods, smiling. "I definitely remember! I'm surprised you do, you were so little." He studies it. "This looks and smells amazing. Thank you both dearly."
"Of course!" She smiles and her ears perk up.
"This truly is wonderful. Exactly what I needed. After Alek nearly skipped his lessons, I was about to blow a fuse." He chuckled.
Kogan giggles.
Bridgette chuckles nervously and curses in her head. "Sire, may I speak to you alone...?"
The king nods and Kogan grins, running out. The king smiles at the cake, setting it aside. "What seems to be bothering you?"
"Its about Alek..." her ears lower "You seem very... cruel towards him. Why is that?"
The king sighs. "Alek is.. a curious boy. I merely punish him when needed."
"I'm sorry but I do not agree with that. I don't think you should punish him. You can not punish someone for being curious."
The king leans forward on his desk. "If Alek is to be king, he needs to know how to respect boundaries. I've tried other ways, he doesn't seem to listen."
"I believe he would if you didn't beat him all the time. It is cruel, and frankly quite selfish." She narrows her eyes.
"You say selfish, but it's for the good of the people. They all see him as uncivilized, some count him as a blemish to our family line and I do take responsibility for that. However, the people don't care for what he can do, they only care about what he fails at. He can afford no room to make those mistakes."
"Take it back. Now." She growls "I don't see you beating Kogan for his mistakes... so why Alek?!"
"The people don't care about Kogan. He can likely get away with anything." The King folds his hands.
"But mistakes are part of being human! Mama told me so because she was human! You can't beat someone for being human! That's inhumane!"
"That is true, but nothing changes unless you learn from those mistakes. I'm enforcing those memories, protecting his reputation."
"No. You're ruining it. You don't force people to learn, they do it on their own. You have to stop beating him! Can't you see I'm begging?!"
"I can, I don't understand why." The king leans back, crossing his arms.
"Because it's terrible! And I know what it's like to be beaten and... I hate it!" She looks at him desperately "Please sir, he doesn't deserve it."
"Doesn't deserve it? Who's to be the judge of that?"
".... Logic?! He is a good boy and deserves to be treated the way you treat Kogan! With respect and care! He feels like his father doesn't love him!"
The king's hands twitch. "He understands the situation, I'm sure."
"No, he doesn't. He tries to but at the end of the day you can see he believes his father has no love for him..." She looks at him.
The king paused, thinking through his words clearly. "I'll speak to him myself. Thank you for the concern. You may go."
She nods and relaxes. "... Please be kind..." She walks out of the room and shuts it, sighing in relief.
The king drums his fingers on the desk, looking at the cake. "Fetch my son." He says to the servant.
