Conor had known what he would like his first date to be. Except there was one issue: the redcloaks. So Conor settled for a more simple date, a picnic on a hill.
He tried his best to enjoy the date. How could he not? Just him and Shane, sitting alone on a grassy euran hill, on a nice breezy summer day. Yet somehow it was underwhelming to him. He tried hiding it but Shane saw through him like he was made of clear glass.
The redcloak placed his plate down "Conor, what's wrong?" he asked.
Conor folded his hands over each other in his lap "What do you mean?" he countered.
When Conor looked at Shane, those golden eyes bared down at him. Shane was always taller than Conor meaning everytime they looked at each other, Shane was a looming presence of scales, fangs, and golden reptile eyes. He scooted closer "You've been quiet this entire time, I assumed you'd be more... excited out here," he said. Conor shifted dropping his gaze down to avoid Shane's soul searching one "Are you disappointed? Do you not like it? Is something wrong?" the redcloak asked.
The greencloak boy wanted to hide away. It was embressing about how he was feeling on this whole thing. He should be happy about this. It was just him and Shane, nobody else but still he felt nothing. Shane's hand brushed over his own "Conor please say something," the former king asked.
Conor leaned away from Shane "I love it, its fine but..."
"But what?"
"Its not what I really wanted for our first date."
Shane brushed his hands over Conor's cheeks. When did he start crying? For the love of Mulop, could he get any worse? Shane pressed their foreheads together "What do you really want?" he asked.
Conor felt his breath hitch "I- I can't ask that of you," he said.
Shane threaded their finger together "Conor if it makes you happy, I'll do it. If it makes you love me, I'll put aside anything for you," he whispered.
Conor had gone from softly crying to full blown sobbing. Shane held him to his chest like a mother held their child and they sat on that sunny summer hill until Conor's breath grew soft and his eyes became dry.
Shane looked at Conor when the smaller pulled away "So what do you really want?" he asked.
Conor wiped his eyes softly "A beach."
"A beach? That's not-"
"A steriolan beach at night in the light of a full moon."
Shane blinked. Conor remained looking away, he knew it was ridiculous. Redcloaks didn't go out at night on full moons, they never stayed at the Greenhaven on full moon nights because they were always urgent to leave before the sun would set. Conor fidgeted, picking at threads on his sleeve "That's what I wanted but-"
Shane grabbed Conor's hands "Its fine, if that's what makes you happy and, hopefully, kiss me, I'll do it." he said, interrupting the euran.
Conor turned red at the comment. He pressed a quick kiss to Shane's cheek "You'll get the real one on this next date," he said.
Shane smiled happily. Oh he was going too.
