55. The Reaction

'Meet my girlfriend, Dale.'

Right after Edward said the words ay pigil ang hininga ni Maymay sa magiging reaksyon nang lahat kaya nagulat ito ng unti unting kinuha ng mga ito ang mga kobyertos na nalaglag at pinagpatuloy ang pagkain na parang walang narinig.

'Mom. Dad. Laura. Aren't you even going to say something.' Tanong ni Edward.

'Just eat Edward. You are a total nonsense.' Sabi ng nanay nito.

'Look I am not kidding.' Sabi ni Edward at nabbwisit na ito sa inaasta ng pamilya kaya naman nagsalita na si Maymay.

'Tita. Tito. Laura. Luis.' Tawag niya sa atensyon ng lahat.

'I'm sorry if we didn't tell you right away but what Edward said was true.' Sabi nito. 'I-I am his girlfriend.' Sabi nito ng nakayuko at nahihiya sa mga kaharap.

'Whaaat?' Gulat na gulat na sabi ng tatlo. Tanging si Luis lamang ang hindi nabigla sa pahayag ng dalawa.

'Yes. I'm really sorry po talaga.' Sabi naman ni Maymay.

'Why did she get a reaction out of you three but none for me?' Edward was really pissed that his family disregarded what he said from earlier.

'Anak, tanging si Maymay lang ata ang naniniwala sayo.' Sabi naman ng ina.

'Told you. Told you.' Biglang nagsalita si Luis habang pumapalakpak. 'Pay up! Pay up!' Paniningil nito sa tatlo.

Sabay sabay naman dumukot sa pitaka ang tatlo at binigyan si Luis nang tag iisang libo.

'What are you doing? You made a bet out of us?' Tanong ni Edward.

'Ha? Eh oo.' Sagot naman ni Luis. 'We started thinking what is it that you're gonna tell us tonight.'

'Andddd?????' Si Edward.

'I said feeling ko may ipapakilala kang girlfriend.' Sabi ni Luis. 'But no one wants to believe me so we made a bet.'

'I can't believe this. But hey, you've known that I like her.' Sita nito kay Luis. 'Mom. Dad. Laura. You've been played.' Pagsusumbong nito.

'Yeah. I knew you liked her but I didn't know you are now together so the bet is still valid.' Sabi nito.

'I can't believe you guys.'

Natatawa naman ang lahat na nasa mesa.

'Dale. Don't be sorry.' Sabi ng nanay ni Edward. 'Honestly, I'm the one feeling sorry for you.' Sabi pa nito.

'Bakit naman po?' Tanong naman ni Maymay.

'You're a great girl to only end up with this douche right here.'

'Moooom! I swear, I'm getting pissed.' Sabi nito sa ina.

'Ditto. I've been pissed off with you since the day you've reached puberty!' His Mom retorted.

'Uhm. Tita. Sa totoo lang po, I've seen a lot of changes with Edward po. You know how I hated him before so please alao give him the chance.' Sabi ni Maymay sa ginang.

'You know this is getting funny. My own family is the one who doesn't want me for you and not the other way around.' Pikon na pikon na si Edward.

'Stop it Catherine.' Sita ng ama ni Edward dahil naawa na din ito sa anak.

'You two. We'll talk about business by tomorrow.' Sabi nito sa dalawa. 'Just enjoy the night for now and Dale, we officially welcome you to the family.' Tumayo ito at inakap si Maymay.

'Remind me to get you a helmet.' Natatawang bulong nito sa dalaga.

Mamaya pa ay tumayo na din si Laura. 'I'm so happy Dale. This, I think is the only right decision my brother made and I can only wish you've made the right decision too.' Natatawa nitong niyakap si Maymay.
