92. MOM's ADVICE

Maymay's nerves are shaking. She doesn't know why.

She knows she's doing the right thing but she couldn't help but be nervous of things to come.

She's alone in her room. She had been for a while or atleast the past 12 hours .

She needed that moment. Just by herself. Absorbing the changes she is yet to face as she tries to gather herself together.

It's gonna be precious from that day on moving forward.

Cause finally, It's her wedding day.

Their wedding day.

It's gonna be the day that she will promise herself to Edward for the rest of their lives. Truth is that, she doesnt need it. She doesn't need a piece of paper or a ring on her finger to give Edward her lifetime. He already has it without the need to be married. But Edward needs it. Edward needs to have a form of security that she will never leave him. He needs her to carry his last name.

Maymay still couldn't believe that she's getting married that day. She walked to the mirror to look at her reflection. Despite her uneasiness, she looks fresh.

Glowing.

She turned towards the door where her dress is hanging.

Her white dress is full of swarovski and pearls. Lots and lots of pearls.

Edward's gonna love her dress. It's simple and doesn't show off much skin.

He doesn't like her showing too much skin cause at the end of the day, Edward can strip her off of everything and would have her entirety for his eyes only.

While Maymay is in her robe, she heard a knock on the door.

'Nak? Are you decent?' Tanong ng ina nito.

'Yes Ma.' Sagot naman niya saka biglang bumukas ang pinto at pumasok ang ina.

Everyone is staying at SFI. Edward was not able to find any other location and SFI is the most convenient place to hold the wedding.

'How are you?' Tanong ng ina sa anak.

'I'm alright. A bit nervous.' Sabi ni Maymay.

'You have every reason to.' Sabi naman ng nanay nito. 'Marriage is a lifetime commitment. Wala ng atrasan ito anak.' Sabi nito.

'I know Mom. I don't have any plans to.' Sagot naman ni Maymay.

'Mabuti naman.' Sagot ng ina.

'Si Kuya pala nasaan?' Tanong nito.

Nagkaayos sila ng kapatid ilang araw bago ang kasal. Dumating ito sa bahay nila ng may dalang bulaklak para sa kanya.

'I'm so sorry May.' Sabi ng kapatid sa kanya. 'Sorry kung medyo naging OA ako.'

'Baby sister kita eh. Baby kita. Hindi ko lang matanggap agad na ito ka na. Magiging Mommy ka na.' Halos maluha luha nitong sabi sa kanya.

'Just know na susuportahan kita sa kung ano man maging desisyon mo. Hindi magiging madali tanggapin pero susuportahan kita. Basta masaya ka.'

Hindi naman napigilan ni Maymay ang maluha sa sinasabi ng kapatid. She loves her Kuya so much and he is her bestfriend. Even before Patricia. Even before Edward. Kaya masaya siya na suportado na siya ng kapatid.

'Can I still walk you down the isle on your wedding day?' Tanong nito sa kanya.

'I wouldn't want anyone else in there but you and Mama, Kuya. Thank you. Thank you.' Umiiyak na inakap ni Maymay ang kapatid.

Nagkaayos na din si Vincent at si Edward. Pagkatapos ng ilang bote ng beer at makailang beses na muntik muli magsapakan.

Natatawa na lamang si Maymay isipin na ayaw magpatalo ng sino man sa dalawa pagdating sa kanya. It's the type of fight she can help but be happy about.

Nagising si Maymay sa pagbabalik tanaw ng tawagin ang atensyon ng ina.

'Huy! Nag space out ka na dyan.' Sabi nito sa kanya.

'Sorry Ma. May iniisip lang.'

'Okay. Let me give you an advise.' Sabi nito sa kanya.

'Oh no! You are not the right person to tell me things about marriage Ma. You were not aboe to keep yours.' Natatawang sabi ni Maymay.

'Tanga!' Nabatukan si Maymay ng ina. 'Kaya nga papayuhan kita para hindi mangyari sayo nangyari sa akin.' Sabi nito.

'Ahhh. You have a point. Go.' Sabi nito.

Her Mom sat at the edge of the bed. 'When you become a wife, you become the core of your husband.' Then her Mom smiled.

'Let him think he's in charge, let him think you can't live without him but never let him take your independence or your identity. Wag mong hayaang mawala ang Ikaw sa Inyo.'

'Yang mga lalaking yan, they need their ego's stroked. They like to think they're wearing the pants and you have to let them believe it.'

Napapailing iling na lamang si Maymay sa ina. 'Ma. Hindi na kailangan ng ganyan ganyan.'

"Kailangan.' Her Mom insisted. 'Men are complicated creatures.'

Natawa si Maymay ng malakas. Her Mom doesn't have an idea how complicated her creature is. 'I know.'

'Akala mo lang matatapang yang mga yan. Matitibay. Pero ang totoo, mahina yan pag wala tayo.' Sabi nito.

'Anak. I can see how much Edward loves you. Bilib ako sa kanya dahil hindi niya ikinakahiya ipakita kahit kanino kung gaano ka niya kamahal. Pero lagi mong tatandaan it's not always gonna be a smooth ride. Don't let yourself get lost on the way.'

'I won't Ma. Promise I won't.' Hindi niya alam kung saan nanggagaling ang ina. Isang linggo pa lamang nila itong nakakasama sa bahay nila ni Edward. Malamang ay nagulat ito sa kung paano sila ni Edward sa isa't isa. She have witnessed the smothering, the constant touching and affection. She can see her Mom had been observing them while Edward is oblivious.

Actually, he isn't. He isn't oblivious. He just doesn't care and she doesn't have any plans on stopping him. Cause she also craves the constant contact just as much as he does.

Her Mom smiled at her. 'Edward wants to look after you. He wants to protect you. Malinaw sa akin kung gaano ka kaimportante sa kanya and me and uour brother couldn't be any happier than this. We are glad you found a man who adores you. A man who will do anything for you.'

'I adore him, too.' Sagot naman ni Maymay. Kung nung una ay natatawa si Maymay sa ina, ngayon naman ay nanginginig na ang boses niya dahil sa sinseridad ng ina.

'Please don't make me cry. My make-up will be ruined.'

Hinawakan niya ang mga pisngi ko. 'Sorry. Tama ka. Enough with the drama. Basta ang akon lang wag mong gagawin ang mga bagay na ayaw mo. I can see that your husband to be is a bit persuasive.'

'Ma. Persuasive is an understatement.' Natatawang sagot ulit ni Maymay.
