~Author's Note~
In, "Season 1, Episode 14: Total Eclipse of the Heart", after Nic, Conrad, and Devon told him about Lane. At first Bell didn't want to believe it, but then when Conrad said that Chastain and Bell could be liable for any repercussion if he didn't do anything about Lane. Then he confronts her about it. This is about how he came to making a decision about what do about Lane Hunter.

(No one's POV)
After Conrad, Devon, and Nic left Bell's office. He started thinking about what Conrad said and that was unsettling. They were right he and the hospital could be liable, since Lane's patients often get omitted into the hospital.

(Bell's POV)
My reputation and the hospital's will be ruined if I hide it. It will be worse also if it get out that I and Lane were in a relationship and I concealed it because I want to protect her, because of our personal relationship. So, maybe, I should just causally ask about her treatment of her patients.
I'm probably not going to say anything to her tonight. But, if she asks about things I'm not going to be able to keep it from her.

(Back to No one's POV)
Just then Lane Hunter walked into Bell's office, "Are we still on for dinner"? She asked, as she appears in the doorway of Bell's office.
Bell turned around and looked at her and said, "Umm, I got something to talk to you about". Bell said, quietly, walking over to her.
Lane looked at him weirdly, "What's going on, Randolph"?. She asked him.
Randolph knew that he couldn't prolong saying what he needed to say before he lost his nerve.
"The FBI is in the process of subpoenaing all of your records from your clinic".
Lane, who was completely caught off guard, and looked at Randolph with big eyes.
"FBI"? Lane whispered. Randolph nodded back at her.
"What are they expecting to find"? She asked.
"For any proof that you have been misdiagnosing and over treating your patients", he said. Then he turned very serious and without a serious look on his face, and said, "Is there any truth to what they suspect"?
Lane looked at him stunned, "Randolph, what exactly are you accusing me of"?
"Did you misdiagnos anyone of your patients, just to get the insurance money"?
"How dare you!!! Every time that you have screw up, I have helped you fight back, and I defended you".
Randolph looked at her with sad eyes, he suddenly got an idea. Lane looks at him, and asked, "What are you thinking"?
He turns to her and says, "The FBI can't get the subpoena until morning. Go to your clinic and get all of the files of your patients that she doesn't want them to find. I will help you to get rid of all of the files that are damaging, don't shred them. They can get reconstructed, and we will burn them in my fireplace".
Lane looked at him and said, "You are protecting me"?! She walked toward Randolph and walked right into his arms and they hugged. Bell touched the crown of her head with his lips, just for a second.
After that, Lane ran out of Bell's office, to get her files.
As soon as she left. Bell sent down at his desk, and tried to get some paperwork done, distractedly.
