School is finished, and I'm standing in the school parking lot, waiting for Nate so that we can drive home together in his car.

A few metres away from me I see Jade, standing next to a car. She is talking to Evan Walker who, like Nate, is one of the basketball players at our school. He's laughing, and I wonder if she actually said something funny, or if he's just trying to be nice because he's hitting on her. Since Jade is pretty popular with guys, I'd say the latter.

Unfortunately, she realises I'm watching them, and I quickly look away, trying to hide my embarrassment. As though she's trying to make it worse, she leaves Evan standing alone and walks up to me.

"You know, instead of staring at me you could actually talk to me," she says, a light grin on her face and in her voice.

I have a feeling she's also referring to the situation when I stared at her in class. I don't know what to say, so I say the first thing which comes to my mind.

"Well, no offence, but I don't want to talk to you."

For some reason, she chuckles. She clearly isn't a person who is quickly offended or intimidated. Even though I don't know her, I think she's similiar to Nate when it comes to talking to people; it's easy for her.

"Aren't you English people supposed to be polite? For someone who comes from England you seem pretty rude," she says.

When she mentions England, I start missing it, and I start wondering what would have happened if we wouldn't have moved here. Maybe we should have simply stayed there. Maybe none of it would have happened if we would have. Maybe I'd still have a sister then.

I know Jade is joking, yet I'm getting mad. Not necessarily at her, but I let my anger out at her anyway.

"And you seem pretty annoying," I hiss at her.

She lets out a short laugh, which is the last thing I would have expected. What is wrong with this girl? Her laugh drives me even madder. I feel a rush of anger running through me. I decide to leave, and that I can wait someplace else for Nate.

As I'm walking off, I hear Jade calling after me, "Thanks for the chat!"

"You're welcome!"

I reach the decision that if I can avoid it, I will not talk to Jade Cadwell any time soon or ever again. Especially not about Olive.
