After history class is finished, I take my stuff and leave as quickly as I can. I feel like Jade is about to say something to me, but I couldn't care less.

I walk to the cafeteria, get some food, and sit down with a groan in front of Nate.

"You seem pissed," he says. "Even more pissed than you usually are after history. Was it that bad?"

"Believe it or not, it was even worse than usual."

I fill him in on what happened in class. He already knows about what happened between Jade and me in the parking lot since I told him right after. Nate doesn't get why I'm so mad at her, and he finds the whole thing funny. I try to explain myself.

"She's just... annoying? I mean, she doesn't do anything, but... she's annoying!" I let out a sound of frustration, and he laughs.

"Well, your new friend is watching you right now," Nate says.

"What?"

I turn around from my seat. He's right. Jade is sitting at a table with some other cheerleaders, and she's looking over to our table. When she notices me looking at her, she gives me a smile and waves at me. I roll my eyes, and her smile turns into what looks like a laugh. I turn back to Nate.

"Ugh, it's like she knows she's annoying," I say, "which it's why she tries to be even more annoying."

"She's not even that bad. I haven't talked to her that often, but she actually seems really cool and funny."

"Yeah, right. I bet that's what every guy at our school says. You only like her because she's pretty."

"Guys like you too because you're pretty, Roze."

"Well, it isn't my fault if most of them are superficial assholes."

Nate chuckles. He looks over to Jade and then back to me. He hesitates for a while before saying what he is about to say.

"You should give her a chance."

I look at him. Is he being serious? Apparently, he is. I can't find any sarcasm in his voice or his face expression.

I think about his words. Maybe Nate is right, maybe I really should give her a chance. Olive can't have been friends with her if she's a shitty person, can she? But I'm not sure. Jade seems to get along with every person. She is the type of girl who is friends with everyone - and no one at the same time. What if she wasn't real friends with my sister? What if she's just being polite? I don't want to open up to her if she doesn't actually care. And what if I do, and she realises how weird I am?

There are so many things that could go wrong. Probably too many.
