About a month later on a Friday Zosia was eating breakfast before dropping Ali at day treatment. Things had been good the last few weeks. Ali was doing ok with food and mood and Zosia was much steadier. Ollie couldn't keep a smile off his face when he thought about his baby.
Ali came downstairs "dzień dobry Zosia, and bump" Good Morning. Ali had taken to wishing hump good morning and goodnight even though Zosia wasn't showing yet. "Dzień dobry." Zosia said back "kettles just boiled and breads in the toaster."
"Thanks"
"Natalia?" Zosia asked "are those my jeans?"
"I didn't think you'd mind...." Ali said shamefaced.
"I don't mind, but why didn't you ask?"
"Mine don't fit anymore....." Ali sat down "this Is one of the only 3 tops that do to." She pulled at the once baggy top.
"Oh Natalia I'm sorry. I was going to take you shopping when you grew out of your party dress, over a month ago. I guess we all got a little sidetracked. Both Ollie and I have the weekend off tomorrow and Sunday. Why don't we all go into town tomorrow. I'll need some bigger clothes soon enough." Although Zosia was less than 2 months pregnant she already loved the little life inside her. "Sorry" Zosia ran out of the loo to the bathroom.
Zosia was bent over the loo throwing up. "Ginger tea?" Ali offered. Zosia took it smiling. "This ones already driving mama mad." She sighed. "Dziękuję" She took a sip of the tea. "Morning sickness?" Ali asked Babcia always made me ginger tea when I was sick. And I remember her making it for Aunt Ola when she was pregnant with Wiktor." Ali smiled
"Mama used to make it for me too. I I though pregnant women were ment to be blooming not a sweaty sick mess."
"You still look gorgeous." Ali told her
Zosia still wasn't feeling great when she got to work after dropping Ali at day treatment. She was now allowed to do everything including surgery. She was about to go examine a patient when a wave of nausea hit her. She ran to the bathroom. "Dr March, are you ok?" A voice said as she finished vomiting, she wiped her face flushed the toilet and came out face to face with her boss, Jac Naylor. "Go home Zosia, you shouldn't be here if you have a sickness bug. You should know that. I know you've had a lot of time off recently but everyone's entitled to a sick day."
"Jac, I'm not sick, I'm pregnant."
"Congratulations?" Jac replied unsurely not sure if Zosia was happy about it.
"Thank you"Zosia replied
"Does Ollie know?" Jac asked.
"Haven't you noticed the dopey smile on his face?" Zosia asked jokingly splashing some cool water on her face. "He's already thinking about cots and prams and names. I'm about 6 weeks along."
"Are you taking your meds?" Jac asked, knowing there were risks to the baby on lithium but knew that Zosia wasn't stable enough without her meds.
"I've got an appointment with Mr T and my psych later to adjust my meds." Zosia told her.
"Look Jac," Zosia continued "please don't tell anyone, the only people who know are Ollie, Natalia, Mr T and Dr Ellison my psych. I haven't even told Dad yet."
"Ok." Jac said. "Whatever"
After talking to Mr T and Dr Ellison it was decided that Zosia would stay on lithium but would need weekly blood tests to check the levels of lithium in the blood "As long as your levels don't get too high, your baby will be fine." Mr T told her. And she was going to split her dose and take some in the morning and some in the evening.
