"Honesty, and love. Two essential parts of the moral compass inside him that guided him and led his hand where it was unsure. But what was he to do if choosing one meant losing the other?"
or, jungkook is a federal agent who has been hunting the infamous thief V for years, but he accidentally falls in love with him instead.
----
There had been two things valued above all else in Jeongguk's family; two things he had learnt along with his A, B, C's. Honesty, and love. He learnt honesty from little rewards for times that he told his parents things he did wrong, and punishments from times when he did the opposite. He learnt love from having felt it- the affection of two parents and an older brother who always made sure he was protected.
Honesty, and love. Two essential parts of the moral compass inside him that guided him and led his hand where it was unsure. But what was he to do if choosing one meant losing the other?
...
"Still no word on V's current location- all units have lost sight of his person. Spread out and monitor all streets within a five block radius."
Jeongguk ended his short message to the local police support the federal bureau had received with a crisp over. He ignored the incoming signals of frustrated officials, complaining about having lost their hold on the elusive criminal yet again. It was like grasping your fist around water; losing him from right between their fingers had the entire police department of Seoul pulling their hair out of their heads.
He switched on his indicator and slowly moved left so he could make the turn that would take him to the very edge of the five block radius he had prescribed. He couldn't help the paranoid looks he kept throwing at his rear view and side mirrors, already preparing excuses for if anyone else saw him.
"You shouldn't do this," the voice came from behind him, in the backseat, "It isn't safe, Gukkie. I could have made it home myself."
Jeongguk waited until he reached a safe place to park- obscured by the bushes but not conspicuously- before turning in his seat. Resting his head against the seat, he said, "You were hurt. I warned you they were bringing guns to the scene; you should have worn your vest. Nothing is more important than keeping you safe."
Nothing is more important than keeping him safe. The thought came easily to him, scarily so. There was no doubt or second guessing when he had seen the other hurt. His place was by the other man's side and his sole purpose in that moment was to keep him safe. These thoughts made him realise just how far he had strayed, just how fast he had fallen. Jeongguk remembered the idealistic youngster he had once been and wondered where he had gone.
The other boy looked up from where he had been looking at the makeshift bandages that covered the wound on his leg. His gaze was soft and then blurred out of focus as he leaned closer, bending to kiss him. "I love you," his lips traced, and Jeongguk mirrored the words along with him.
Whether his agents looked for five blocks or five hundred, they wouldn't find the person they were looking for, because he was right here in Jeongguk's arms.
...
Like with all stories, this one had a beginning. It also inevitably had an end but that wasn't something they liked to talk about.
It started with a case file placed onto Jeongguk's desk by his superior; the infamous V case had been handed over to him. His first thought had been where did I go wrong, because everyone knew that case was one that drove you in circles and was called an honour even though the lack of success in the case was a slow drain on any agent's prestige.
