Jeongguk is a barista by day and a killer by night. Mr. Kim was his freshman history professor, and is now is co-worker at the cafe.
It's normal to ask your old professor, and current crush, if you can move into his spare bedroom...right?
---
As the shot goes off, he watches the mans body fall to the floor. He doesn't know what he did, but he's probably a thief. They usually are. Once the body hits the floor with a dull clunk, he nods to Hoseok and Seokjin. They immediately move in to take care of the body.
He stuffs his gun into the waistband of his slacks and walks the five blocks to the bus stop, spending the ride looking for new apartments. They're raising the rent to $650 and he can't possibly afford that, even with his two jobs. The 30 day notice he received two days ago weighs heavily in his coat pocket.
When his alarm goes off the next morning, he groans. He doesn't know why he got scheduled a morning shift today, it's not even in his availability. He takes a shower, thinking about his hot History professor as he quickly pumps himself to completion. As he slips into his work t-shirt that's easily a size too small and ties the knot of his no-slip shoes, he can't help but laugh at how differently his day is from yesterday.
Yesterday, he killed a man. He took the life of a stranger. Today, he'll go to his job at the cafe and pretend like he's an average college student. He'll see his best friend, who will no doubt try and get him to agree to yet another blind date. He'll see the black car that follows him around and feel bad for Hoseok, who is always in it.
The bike ride to work isn't bad. He almost gets knocked down by a child, running out of an ice cream shop. Who gives their kid ice cream at 10 am? A few minutes later, he locks his bike onto the rack and makes his way into work.
It's fucking slammed and there's a person he's never seen before working the register. They're really slow so he thinks they're probably new.
He sighs. Today's going to be a long day. He rushes to put his things away in the employee break room, clocking in fifteen minutes early and walking over to the new guy.
"What are you looking for?"
"Ummm she wanted a - a what?"
The woman groans. "A medium caramel latte with extra foam, half and half sugar free and regular caramel, and soy milk."
"So hit the M, then Soy, then Latte, then Caramel. Then grab the cup and jot it down." Jeongguk immediately writes down the correct way to mark the cup and hustles to make the woman's drink. He throws in a coupon for 20% off next time since she seems angry, and she gives him a genuine smile.
The next hour goes exactly like this. Every customer gets a coupon because every customer seems angry. Jeongguk has yet to actually look at the man at the register, busy making drinks and getting baked goods. He wonders where everyone is at. Surely they didn't schedule a new guy all by himself?
When it finally slows down, Jeongguk tells the guy over his shoulder to grab a towel from the bucket and wipe down the tables. The man complies, and Jeongguk spends the next twenty minutes cleaning up the espresso machine, sweeping, and stocking.
"Okay. I'm done."
Jeongguk turns around and is shocked by the face that greets him. "Mr. Kim?"
His professor smiles at him. "Jeongguk. Didn't notice me before?"
"N-no. I was busy trying to make coffee and figure out why they left a new guy alone."
Mr. Kim chuckles. "His fiancé broke his leg trying to clean a window in their apartment, so Yoongi left to take him to the hospital."
