Jungkook spends most of his time backstage texting a group chat filled with other kpop idols born on 1997.
In turn Taehyung feels ignored and a little (read a lot) hurt by the fact that he isn't the only one who can make the maknae smile like that.
~~~
A scowl forms over Kim Taehyung's beautiful features as he eyes the reason for his discontent. Jeongguk stands leaning against a wall eyes glued to his phone as he smiles at some text.
Jeongguk is Taehyung's reason.
Reason that he is victim to his heart, that he doesn't understand emotions at all, and most bitter of all; the reason his stomach churns as he realizes that he is not the only one receiving the younger's attention.
Taehyung's frown deepens as he crosses his arms feeling vulnerable all of the sudden. It's not like he expects to be the center of Jeongguk's life, but the way those doe eyes watch him as if Taehyung's the most entertaining thing to ever have spoken, really leaves him expecting the behavior to continue forever.
Taehyung won't lie, the attention does feel good, but if attention was all he wanted he'd just go bug another one of their members.
No what Taehyung really seeks from Jeongguk is companionship. The kind only he can give because he's the most like him. Every time he starts a game Jeongguk follows without missing a beat and despite all of Taehyung's incessant need for physical contact the maknae never shuts him down.
He takes all of his hyung's quirks in stride making Taehyung feel like a good kind of special. The kind that would be applied to rare gems. Unlike most other people who have discovered his habits, and deemed them nothing but annoying.
So yea it kinda stings to see the way Jeongguk gives the same kind of devoted attention to literally anyone. It's then that he hears the aforementioned male giggling at something on his screen.
God how Taehyung wishes he was just looking at memes.
However, the world's never been so kind. No the younger is still texting in a group chat full of different idols from all kinds of groups. He never even bothers to answer his own members texts half the time, yet not minutes earlier Jeongguk was boasting about how funny Yugyeom is.
When Taehyung spots Hoseok and Jin making their way over to them closely followed by a camera, he quickly schools his face into a look of complacency. His earlier excitement for their comeback stage now squandered by a new feeling of resentment.
Resentment not towards Jeongguk of course, but to himself, for allowing himself to believe he was special enough to receive more attention than all the other incredibly wonderful people in the maknae's life.
He's met so many talented and ridiculously good looking idols, why would he ever even bat an eye at Kim Taehyung of all people?
The weight of his negative thoughts triples as Taehyung considers the possibility that maybe Jeongguk's been looking for a break from his 4D member.
Maybe Taehyung just thought Jeongguk was enjoying the time they spent together when in reality Jeongguk was simply too nice to turn Taehyung down when he clung onto the younger.
Suddenly all the times he purposely tried to get a rise out of Jeongguk come to Taehyung's mind. Sure at the time he thought they were both playing around, but what if he completely misread the situation?
Oh how uncomfortable their poor Kookie must've been. Taehyung grimaces at his own inattentiveness to the others true intentions. The poor kid was probably just trying to spare Taehyung's feelings, and Taehyung just wouldn't take a hint.
