A Cinderella story
The courtyard was chaotic, busy servants rustling about, cleaning, decorating and trying their hardest not to run over each other. Jungkook stood, a bucket full of water he picked up to swipe the floors in his hands and watched all of his friends with a content expression on his face at their giddy excitement, until he noticed his stepmother and sister, stomping around and snapping at everyone they passed.
The King, Queen, and most importantly, their son, the crown Prince were passing their estate and everyone was beyond nervous. The people were saying that soon, the Prince would have to pick his spouse and marry, which left everyone around his age daydreaming about a handsome Prince, that would fall heads over heels for them and pick them instead of someone highborn, rescuing them from their simple lives. But not Jungkook. Of course, everything would be better without his horrible stepmother, who degraded him to a simple servant, as soon as his father, who had adored him, died of a sickness.
Now, Jungkook was stuck cleaning and always had ash or dirt on his clothing and face from the tedious work his stepmother made him do. It wouldn't have been half as bad if it wasn't for his stepsister, who constantly reminded him of how he should be treated. She always waltzed about in nice, expensive dresses and jewelry - all paid by his father's fortune, mind you – and never had to lift a finger. The good thing was that she was getting fat because of her laziness. Looking like that, Jungkook thought, at least she won't have any chances with the Prince.
Neither did Jungkook, he wasn't delusional. Of course, the Prince looked his part, like a young god in silk and leather, but he knew it was absolutely impossible for the Prince to ever notice him. Because of that, he didn't even think about it, didn't get his hopes up. He still wanted to see him that day, though, just to refresh his memory of the young man's handsome features.
His dream was quickly shattered though, as he saw his stepmother approaching. He just went back into the kitchen to start cleaning the floor, since all the meals had been prepared, when he saw his friend Namjoon drop a bowl out of the corner of his eye. He rushed over to start picking up the shards of porcelain when the lady of the house entered. When she took the whip from it's place on the wall and he saw tears welling up in Namjoon's eyes, he had to improvise. Damn his impulsiveness.
"It was me," he heard come from his own lips, before he could stop himself, his stepmother's eye twitched. And of course, she would take the opportunity to take his chance of seeing the Prince.
"Stay inside, Jungkook." He imitated her nasal voice.
"You'd be a disgrace to show before the royal family." He effed.
"Oh, Jungkook, why don't you separate the peas from the beans I just threw all over the floor." He huffed, as he started picking them up from the floor.
"Ugh. I hate her." At that moment, he heard a noise from the window and his heart fluttered. Hopefully....
"Oh, thank you!" He beamed at the white doves, steadily fluttering in through the window he just opened. They started picking up the peas and beans, dropping them into the baskets. Jungkook smiled. Of course, his friends would come to help him. Now, he could at least get out of here, even if he could not be seen on the courtyard.
