Jungkook had been so tired, so bleary-eyed and dead to the world, that he hadn't realized until later, in the editing room with his styrofoam cup of coffee between his hands, that he'd forgotten to kiss Taehyung goodbye. Not that it mattered much, he supposed, since Taehyung was always still asleep, but. It kind of did.

(Because Jungkook has seen enough movies about characters who put their careers over their relationships to know how lucky he is to have someone like Taehyung.)

----

The editing room is dark and warm, and as much as Jungkook is immersed in the project, it's making his eyelids heavy.

He yawns, not particularly discreet, and Hoseok looks over at him, amused. "Still waiting for the fun to start?"

Jungkook snaps his mouth shut, embarrassment sneaking up the back of his neck. "No, it's fun, I'm just tired." He quickly blinks the sleepy tears from his eyes.

Hoseok pats him on the shoulder, and then leans back in his desk chair. Namjoon sits on his other side, studying the frame on the screen. The three of them sit crowded around giant dual monitors, slowly progressing through shot after shot after shot of film.

"Be honest, Jungkook, it's important to express your opinions during the creative process," Hoseok says. He jabs Namjoon with his thumb. "Especially when Namjoon refuses to use the explosion effect."

"There's never any need for the explosion effect," Namjoon says absently, eyes darting around the screen. "If they want explosions, they do it while filming."

"And leave nothing for us to play with," Hoseok pouts. He looks back at Jungkook. "But really, let us know your input, Jungkook. You've got an eye for this. You wouldn't be here if you didn't."

"I know, hyung," Jungkook says, not without a small amount of shame. He feels off this morning, tired, but that's no excuse. What is he doing, yawning on the job? This is an important project, important work. He's worked hard to get here, and he's just sitting here yawning?

His internship for BigHit Productions was no easy thing to get, and most days he loves being here, mind attentive and engaged in his work. He loves film; he'd loved it since he was a teenager and made dumb videos starring his best friend ("You better thank me in your big fancy award speech one day, Jeon Jungkook. I want my acting recognized." "I know, hyung," Jungkook says to Jimin every time, as if intentionally jumping from his bedroom window into a pile of all of their socks combined was acting, just because it was done in front of a camera).

Jungkook loves being behind a camera, telling a story, and fitting it seamlessly together in the editing room. There's something about a well-edited scene – even something as small as just the right transition, the right music at the right time – that simply...did it for him.

"Should I be jealous?" Taehyung will ask sometimes when they watch movies together, catching the way Jungkook stares at the screen. Mostly, Jungkook has learned to ignore the comment, but still Taehyung wags his eyebrows and stuffs another handful of popcorn into his mouth, and then Jungkook's.

No, Taehyung doesn't need to be jealous, but yes, Jungkook loves film, deeply.

Jungkook scoots his chair closer to the monitors, nearly bumping his knees with Hoseok's.

Hoseok and Namjoon are only a few years older than he is, but they've already been here a while and practically lived in the editing room. They probably didn't get there by yawning through their internships.

If someone performs well as an intern, there's a good shot they'll get taken on permanently.

And Jungkook wants to get taken on permanently. Very, very badly.
