Taehyung and Jungkook are in love, but lately, Taehyung feels like Jungkook has been avoiding him.
~
It was spring when they met.
Taehyung had been behind Jungkook in the line for coffee. It was a long line - it was a warm day, and the city centre had been packed. Taehyung would order his usual (a vanilla latte with an extra espresso shot and a pump of chestnut syrup), so he found himself watching the cute boy perusing the cake display in front of him as he waited.
He was around the same height as Taehyung, dressed in a big white sweater that engulfed his frame and baggy black cargo pants, nike gym bag slung over his shoulder. Big brown eyes, and fluffy brown hair that fell across them as he carefully considered a slice of lemon curd cake.
Taehyung, though generally a confident man, didn't make a habit of striking up conversations with random people on the street. But he found the kid so adorable that he couldn't resist asking for his number.
He held himself back and avoided jokes or pick-up lines, not wanting to scare the boy; he tapped him on the shoulder and straightforwardly told Jungkook, 'Hey, I think you're cute. Can I have your number?'
Jungkook had looked at Taehyung and his blue hair and his Chanel earrings and his glittering rings and pink suit jacket a bit like he was an alien, nose twitching at Taehyung's perfume scent. But, to his credit, Taehyung thought he did a pretty good job of hiding his nervousness as he accepted, tapping his number into Taehyung's phone with hesitant fingers.
After Jungkook ordered his milkshake and chocolate cake, Taehyung smoothly stepped up alongside him and ordered his own coffee, paying for both of them with a wink.
Their first date was a week later. Taehyung decided he would save his boas for perhaps the third or fourth date, and wore a cream silk shirt and wide legged tailored trousers instead. Jungkook had eyed the expensive fabric nervously when he arrived, fiddling with the scuffed hem of his long black hoodie.
Taehyung thought he was so fucking cute.
They ate ice cream and chatted, and Taehyung was enticed further by Jungkook's cute perspective on things, so different than his own. And they were different, in plenty of ways - Taehyung, an established fashion designer, 28 years old, wealthy - he knew he was, he was lucky in many ways - living what some would call 'the high life', and Jungkook, a 20 year old student, struggling and sleep-deprived through an art degree, a gym bunny, usually spent his free time eating instant ramen and playing video games. They learnt all about each other, curious about each other's existence in a way that excited Taehyung.
But as the time went on, it wasn't the differences or similarities between them that really drew Taehyung to Jungkook; it was his pure soul, his cute personality; his kindness, the way he always offered to carry Taehyung's bags when Taehyung dragged him out shopping, the way he laughed aloud like a child when Taehyung told him a funny story, the sweet way his whole face softened whenever he saw Yeontan, Taehyung's pomeranian.
In the summer, they became official. Taehyung hadn't been interested in romantically seeing or sleeping with anyone else for months. His thoughts were occupied by Jungkook all day. His secretary teased him for daydreaming and having hearts in his eyes.
Jungkook had finished his exams and exhibition (Taehyung had had to drop by almost every day to bring him food and remind him to take care of himself, and to dote on the poor boy who looked so exhausted and adorable covered in paint and chalk), and was on holiday from university. Taehyung went to see him every weekend, not minding the 4-hour round trip train journey at all - every minute and every penny spent on Jungkook was worth it the second he saw Jungkook's sunshine-y smile greeting him at the station.
