(or: taehyung loses a bet and has to go watch a horror movie by himself in the theatre. there, he meets jeongguk, and ends up grabbing his hand because he got too scared.)

Taehyung was seriously going to kill his friends.

Or maybe his past self for thinking that betting on whether or not he could drink an entire two litre carton of orange juice before Jimin— they werebored okay— was a good idea, but that's not the important part.

No, because now Jimin's pulling him through the movie theatre towards the ticketing line with a shit eating grin on his lips, glancing up at the selection of movies showing despite already knowing what Taehyung's being forced to see. He doesn't even remember the title, just knows that it's a horror movie and he cannot watch those for the life of him, but bets are bets, and Jimin would've totally eaten five raw potatoes if he lost.

Taehyung still doubts that, but he supposes he'll never know, now.

While Jimin's busying himself with buying Taehyung's ticket, the latter of the pair is trying his best not to focus on what's to come. He stares at the popcorn machine, watches how the kernels burst every couple seconds, before his eyes drift to the slushie machine, focusing on how it spins the mixture inside. But his heart still beats fast, only getting worse when Jimin pulls him away from the ticketing booth and passes him his ticket along their way towards the theatres.

"Remember," the older of the two starts when they're in front of the door to the movie Taehyung's meant to watch, "you have to sit through the whole thing, and no cheating. 'Kay?" Jimin reminds him, a sympathetic smile playing at his lips.

"Why can't you just come with me?" Taehyung asks with a pout, playing with the ticket in his hands nervously. Jimin only sighs, giving him a quick hug.

"I can't Taehyungie, I've got a date with Hoseok hyung," he murmurs after pulling away, Taehyung catching the small yet brief grin that forms on his lips at the mere mention of the boy. "Just text me when you're done, alright?"

Taehyung nods, waves goodbye reluctantly to his friend before hesitantly pulling open the door to the theatre. By the time he gets to the main part, he gulps from where he's stood when he sees just how full it is, shoulders slumping as he walks up the steps to get the closest seat to the back row as possible.

He manages to snag a seat next to a cute boy who's got a pout on his lips and rounded glasses slipping down the slope of his nose while he focuses on playing a game on his phone. A beanie is placed snugly on the top of his head, messy bangs still hanging over his eyes despite being swept off to the side, eyebrows furrowing more and more as he swipes his thumb along the screen.

Well, if Taehyung gets too scared, he'll just ogle this boy instead.

As more time passes and previews for more lighthearted movies play on the screen, Taehyung starts to feel a little more confident. Though not entirely, he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he'll be able to get through this.

But when the lights slowly start to dim, that feeling of dread that rested in Taehyung's gut earlier returns, twisting and tightening, only serving to make him feel tenser than before. The sound of people munching on their snacks echoes through the theatre for a fleeting moment, until the sound of a shrill shriek rings through Taehyung's ears, causing him to jump and bump his elbow into the cute boy's beside him.

He almost has half the mind to apologize, but the moment he looks over, his mouth is left gaping open when he finds the boy already staring back with a small smile on his lips. Taehyung hopes the deep red blush that blooms on his cheeks isn't visible, but highly doubts it when the boy smirks at him before turning his attention back to the movie.
