Maybe Taehyung should make sure he's ended the Skype call before he starts spilling all his secrets to Yeontan.
----
"...and I told him I could kick his ass in a hot-dog eating contest, but still he turns up at my door, hot-dogs in hand..."
Taehyung reached for the ceiling, stretching out his muscles that ached due to the days relentless training and dance practices. He rubbed his tired eyes, half paying attention to the story Guk was currently telling him over their Skype call. He lazily glanced over at the clock in the bottom corner of the monitor before letting his eyes flicker back to the messy haired boy again. 02:17.
"Moral of the story, don't inhale nine hotdogs and three cans of Sprite in one sitting, unless you're willing to spend an entire night with your face in the toilet while you throw it back up."
"Delightful."
Taehyung took advantage of the comfortable silence that fell between them, staring deeply into the youngers gorgeous, dark eyes. He felt chills creep up his arms and a tingling heat spread across his neck and cheeks. He was only looking at a screen, but that along with the knowledge that Guk was only a couple doors down, set his heart racing.
He loved him. He loved him so much. His stupid stories. His goofy little giggle that always progressed into an obnoxious laugh, then a mess of wheezing and clapping. His eyes, a rich chocolate brown paired with small flecks of soft caramel, warm and inviting. His honey golden skin, forbidden territory to Taehyung's forever curious finger tips. Putting it all together, his looks and personality, Taehyung could only compare Guk's beauty to that of a sunset.
He was in deep.
"Did the call freeze?"
Jungkook waved a hand in front of his camera, snapping Taehyung out of his trance.
"Sorry, I'm just a little tired is all."
"Oh shit, I didn't realise the time! We should probably head off to sleep."
Taehyung rubbed his face again, still seeing the image of Jungkook in his head, even with his knuckles massaging his closed eyes. A common occurrence. He faltered, a pout tugging at his plump lips before he can stop it and he can only hope Jungkook doesn't notice.
"Yeah sure, I'll see you in the morning."
"Goodnight Tae."
Taehyung closes the call, a heavy weight lifting off of his shoulders and he lets out a breath he didn't realise he was holding.
"Tan-ah"
A bread loaf sized ball of fluff comes sprinting over from the other side of the room, hopping onto Taehyung's lap with a gentle bark. He nuzzles his face into Yeontan's belly while making a series of unintelligible baby-like noises.
"I nearly told him this time, Tan. He had his hair all wavy how I like it and his lips were all plump and shiny."
He laid the dog across his lap, thumb and index finger making their way over to his mouth in a pinching motion. He gently open and closed Tan's mouth playfully as if to mimic him talking, adding a sweet, cartoonish tone to his voice as he spoke for him.
"Why don't you just tell him Tae Tae?"
"Ah because young Tannie..."
He paused. Thinking over his words as if they held any weight in this pretend conversation with his dog.
"...because...there are thousands and thousands of languages...millions of words and billions of ways to thread those words together...but still, I don't think I can find a way to use them to convey how I feel."
Taehyung thinks it over in his head, finding comfort it Tan's soft breaths. How do you explain colour to a blind person? Sound to a deaf person? You can only do so much before the barriers present themselves and you're left with half an answer. He speaks out again.
"Looking at him makes me want to scream until my lungs give out and my throat burns. I feel his name tattooed on my tongue and his touch scarred into my skin. The feelings I have are ugly and dangerous, but they're soft and calming too...I...I love h-"
Taehyung and Yeontan both leap out of their seats when someone begins frantically banging on the door. He wonders who could possibly have such an emergency at 3AM, that would mean they need to be banging so loudly, but he goes to investigate nonetheless. He's barely opened the door two inches when the person forces it open the rest of the way, slamming it behind him as he strides into the room.
"Jungkook, what are you-"
Taehyung couldn't finish his question, lips otherwise occupied after Jungkook had slammed their faces together. Jungkook's lips on Taehyung's. Taehyung's on Jungkook's. Their lips together. Kissing. Jungkook's hand was resting softly under Taehyung's ear, his other holding firmly onto his hip as if to steady him. The kiss was brief. The younger had pulled away first, leaning back to rest the foreheads together, breaths mixing in the small space between them.
"How long?"
"What do you m-"
"You didn't close the call...I heard...everything."
Taehyung wracked his brain for the words he had spoken a few minutes earlier, but Jungkook was so close to him, pressed up against him, it's like his mind was malfunctioning. He didn't dare to move. He wanted to kiss him again, of course he did, but he was afraid. Afraid it wasn't the right thing to do, or that Jungkook wouldn't want him to. A glass of red wine in a white room during an earthquake. That's how it felt.
"So how long?"
Jungkook was pressing him for an answer, but Taehyung really didn't know. He thought back to the first time he lost his breath when the other had laughed at one of his stupid jokes. The first time his heart skipped a beat when they had cuddled up to watch whatever rubbish was on the TV. The first time he cried himself to sleep after they had argued over Jungkook forgetting their plans to play video games. The cuddling incident had happened merely three or so months into their friendship.
"Since...since the beginning."
That was all Jungkook needed to connect their lips for the second time. An invisible magnet pulled them towards each other, a chain bound them together and a lock secured them. Even if the walls around them had crumbled at the moment, they wouldn't have noticed. Taehyung exhaled through his nose, moving his hand from Jungkook's chest to his hair, tangling his fingers within the messy waves. He pulled him impossibly close, those chains around them tightening and suffocating them. Taehyung thinks maybe he'll pass out, chuckles at the idea even, only for a second though before he's melting back into the kiss.
When they finally pulled away for the last time, Taehyung could still taste Jungkook on his lips and he prayed to the Gods that the taste would always linger. He felt a tickle on his cheek and realised he had been crying. Before he could wipe the tears away, Jungkook's soft hands were doing it for him.
"Guk I-"
"I love you."
They were both crying now, Jungkook pulling them into a tight hug, whether it was to comfort himself or Taehyung, he wasn't sure. Taehyung burrowed his face into the space just above Jungkook's collarbone as he cried softly. He was half frustrated with himself for not telling Guk how he felt from the start. They had missed out on so much time where they could have been just like this, together. Taehyung wouldn't make that mistake again.
"I love you too"
