Hamilton Oneshots!

Yes, I deleted a oneshot to post this. Don't @ me, and don't ask which one bcuz the last thing I want is someone getting hella sHoOk bcuz a oneshot they rlly like is now gone--

So, why the heck did Galaxy delete a oneshot just to post whatever this is gonna be? honestly idk I just rlly felt the need to-

Before I begin... o p i n i o n s. I cannot stress this enough yikes. Girl is gonna be hella opinionated in this a/n, so pls respect that it's my own opinion and p l s don't go bashing me or anyone else if they share my input

Now, what's the t e a of this a/n?

The fandom.

Yep.

We're talking about that.

I'm gonna be blunt: the Hamilton fandom can be a bit of a mess sometimes-

I haven't been the longest fan; I didn't join the fandom the year it came out or whatev. But good gosh, have I seen comments from Hamilton fans bashing other musicals simply bcuz Hamilton grew to be hella popular hella fast

Bottom line, just be kind. I'm glad all my readers I've seen love all sorts of other musicals and enjoy my references as well as others' :)

But, I also just saw some sh*t recently that people are apparently "whitewashing" (in a sense, but not like the actual definition) Anthony? Like e x c u s e ? I doubt it's the Hamilfans (we love Ant here let's be honest-), but that's just a thing I wanna warn y'all about. Again, just be kind (and respectful)- Anthony is Puerto Rican, not white

And one last thing before I get onto like the main reason I'm writing this... comments on the OBC members' insta accs. I think the most I've seen it on is Daveed's-

Y'all, I get it many of the cast members are pretty attractive (i'm currently in constant bisexual distress myself looking at Jas and Ant-), but the c o m m e n t s I've seen...

Even if you haven't commented inappropriate sh*t (and please never do-), remember these are real humans who can (and will) get genuinely uncomfortable. I'm 90% sure Daveed addressed it at some point to not call him "daddy", so pls pls p l s listen to him and don't leave that sh*t or anything of the sorts- and not just on his acc, but anyone's for that matter-

A n y w a y s, that's that tea about all the social media sh*t and whatnot. Again, pls don't go bashing me, it's all my opinions and just my perspective. I'm not attacking anyone, so that's just a heads up

Next, I wanted to talk about the people represented in Hamilton... this is finna be a time. I can't stress opinions enough at this point, especially with what I'm abt to get into. Just bear with me here, y'all

If there's anything I've come to notice the longer I've been in this fandom, it's how fans write the people. Particularly our soldier Laurens, which I'm about to get into v quick

How do y'all think of John Laurens?

I'm fairly sure a decent amount of people are thinking of words along the lines of 'gay', 'turtles', and just all the soft things

What about Jefferson?

'Kinky sh*t'? Just maybe. But I wanted to talk about John in particular

To me, out of all the people in Hamilton that have been portrayed, or 'changed' (so to say) by the fandom, it's John Laurens

John, in like over half of the things you'll see in the fandom, is with a turtle, obviously appearing as gay, b o t h, and/or just all of the really soft things like flower crowns and sh*t

Now, I get it. It's cutesy, and we like cutesy things. But it's also kinda... interesting

As a girl who loves history, I took quick interest to Hamilton once I found it. And I took a just as quick liking to John. Not just bcuz of his voice or sh*t, but bcuz he was a genuinely good person. Finding someone from one of my favorite time periods who wanted to free the slaves and wanted equality was something I found crazy amazing. So it was only a matter of time (h a) that I started looking into more about him outside of the musical

I had quickly gotten accustomed to the fandom's portrayal of John: quirky, outgoing, gay in most fanfics (unless with the fem reader, peggy, and whatnot), and so on, so forth. But I usually tried to stay away from including turtles and things like that; a lot of the fandom had it already. And as much as I like(d?) Lams, I'm fairly sure I have only one Lams oneshot in this book

This is what I find interesting: most of the Hamilton fandom's portrayal of John is nothing like who he was in real life. Now, don't go @-ing me

You're prolly already thinking, "but Galaxy, it doesn't have to be the same-" and y e s, I understand lmao. But let's talk about John. The real John Laurens.

We already know John was hella reckless. That's an easy one. But that's really where the similarities end at times

Many of us see John as one of the v pure, outgoing, soft and innocent ones. But he really wasn't pure or innocent. John was far beyond reckless in battle. He was ruthless. He killed and killed, fought his *ss off for the slaves' lives and sacrificing his own in the process. John was strong and empowering

You see the difference, right?

Ion know how any of this happened lol. All I know is Hamilton's letter(s) to John seemed to make him hella gay, and his (few, might I add) drawings of turtles seemed to make him obsessed with turtles. Maybe it was Anthony's sweetheart personality who made the rest of John's portrayal what it is, but ion know y'all.

So you're prolly thinking, "what's the point of this?" and again, frankly, ion even know the full reason myself, but I felt like someone outside of tumblr had to say it. John had his own legacy, and this fandom's portrayal is... certainly something

Before anyone gets defensive, I'm not saying in any way to stop, and I'm not trying to come off as rude or defensive of John. It's just something to think about.

All I ask of y'all is to try and remember him for who he was. Try and remember he wasn't a hella soft boy obsessed with turtles and Alex; John Laurens was a real, remarkable soldier who doesn't get enough credit for what he did

I had a lot of ideas I never got to use for John, a lot of them being hamiltime time period after I had done research. So what I might actually do is go back through old hamiltime! Laurens oneshots and delete/re-edit them in a way that I - as the author - will love them more. So don't be too surprised if this book starts giving you notifications again

Anyways, that's that for a long-*ss a/n. Please don't take this sh*t the wrong way, I just felt it was about time I put my own opinion out there. Don't be afraid to put yours out there, either
