Your POV

Being one of the very adored Schuyler sister really had its benefits. One was that I always got to help with the annual Winter's Ball. Of course, I had yet to find a suitor... but I always enjoyed myself! Another benefit was I just got to be related to the best sisters in the world.

However, today was the day of the ball, and boy were we excited! I had on a (F/C) dress of course. I even had a matching ribbon!

Eliza was currently assisting me with my corset, rambling about how she was determined to get me to meet my soulmate, along with hers (this is the ball where she meets Alex).

Soon enough, we were all ready. My three sisters were adorned in their signature colors, as was I. We assumed the ball had begun (it was at our home of course), for the band had begun playing. My youngest sister grabbed my arm and eagerly pulled me with her, our two sisters right behind us. When we reached the stairs, Peggy let go of my arm, and we started our way downstairs. People paused what they were doing to watch us with excited eyes and smiles. Peggy held onto my arm again, smiling, but I could tell she was a little nervous. Pa was waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs, and he greeted us with a compliment and a smile. With that, our night had begun.

~ very tiny time skip ~

I was chatting with Eliza and Peggy, and we watched as Angie dazzled the room and all the men with her charm, giggling. Then, I watched a group of four revolutionaries walk in. I could tell by the navy blue coats they adorned. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Eliza's eyes widen and a blush creep across her face. My eyes found who her heart already went 'boom' over.

He was a rather small man, but I put that aside. His slick brown hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail. I recognized him barely as Alexander Hamilton, General Washington's assistant. Pa talked about the war quite a bit, and I picked up on his descriptions. I won't lie, I thought he looked quite nice, but it was the man next to him that made me feel like my sister.

The man had dark brown hair, and his messy curls were pulled back into a ponytail as well. I could also faintly make out freckles. Quite a bit of them.

My gaze stopped as I watched Eliza start to make her way to Angie. Peggy nudged me. "I saw you looking at Freckles over there. Go talk to him, (N/N)!"

I shook my head blushing. "Oh, no! I couldn't, Pegs."

It appeared I might've had to, however, as Freckles gaze met mine, and he started making his way over. I swear I started panicking. I grabbed Peggy's arm. "He's coming over, Pegs! I'm not ready!"

Peggy laughed. "Relax, (N/N)."

I was about to comment, but a voice cut me off.

"Good evening, ladies."

I turned slightly to see Freckles. 'Oh god oh god oh god...' Now I felt my heart go 'boom'.

John's POV (back to when they got to the ball)

Arriving at the annual Winter's Ball, I felt a rush of excitement. Alex was determined to get a Schuyler sister by the end of the night, and a part of me was too... but not really. I knew Alex could probably charm one, but me? I'm not too sure.

In less than a minute, I spotted all four Schuyler sisters. Angelica was dazzling the men, and Eliza, Peggy, and (Y/N) were all talking. I saw Eliza look over, spotting Alex. Her eyes widened and she left quickly to Angelica, who she just quite couldn't seem to get to.

My eyes wandered back over to Peggy and (Y/N). I'd always liked (Y/N) the most. She was a mix of her sisters, despite being the second youngest. She had Peggy's outgoing nature, Eliza's kindness, and Angelica's wit, all mixed into one.

Peggy nudged (Y/N) and said something to her. (Y/N) blushed and replied something. I looked at her before deciding to make my way over. She grabbed Peggy's arm, blushing even more. Peggy only laughed and replied to what she had said. I approached them.

"Good evening, ladies."

(Y/N) turned slightly to look at me, and I could clearly see the blush on her face. I couldn't help but grin. Peggy did a quick curtsy, (Y/N) doing the same.

"Peggy Schuyler. This is my older sister, (Y/N)," Peggy said.

I bowed. "I've heard many nice things about you sisters. I'm Lieutenant ColonelJohn Laurens, at your service."

(Y/N) giggled slightly, and Peggy looked at her, grinning. "I'll best be off. I needed to find Eliza anyways. Have fun you two!" Peggy skipped away.

The band started playing another song. I motioned to the ball floor. "Care to dance?"

(Y/N) nodded. "S-sure!"

I took her hand and led her to the floor. My arms wrapped around her waist and hers draped around my neck, and we just glided across the floor.

We talked a lot about ourselves, and I couldn't believe I was talking to (Y/N) Schuyler. I was beyond happy.

At the end of the song, I kept my arms around her waist. "Would you give me the honor of courting you, Miss Schuyler?"

Her eyes widened, and she nodded. "Yes! And just call me (Y/N)... or (N/N). Whichever works."

I grinned. "Then just call me John then, (Y/N)."

Your POV

John gave me his address so we could write each other. I can't believe he was mine! He was truly amazing. Eliza also started to court Alexander, so she was all smiles. We both got a suitor like she wanted.

Peggy wouldn't stop teasing me for the night, but I didn't try to stop her. I just thought about John Laurens. His bright hazel eyes, and the amount of freckles that dotted his face like a galaxy. I realized how in-love I truly was.

Who knew a soldier could make you so helpless?
