Two little girls were sitting in the grass of a playground one sunny Saturday. They were best friends. One was a girl with dark brown had and matching brown, cheerful eyes. The other girl had (H/C) and shining (E/C) eyes.
The brunette, named Emmy, turned to her best friend. "Hey (N/N), what do you think will happen when we're much older?"
Her best friend thought a moment. "I don't know!" (Y/N) looked at her best friend, then gasped. "We could get married!"
Emmy's eyes widened. "I thought only a boy and a girl could do that?"
(Y/N) shook her tiny head. "Nope! My mommy says anyone can get married!"
Emmy smiled widely. "That's so awesome! We should get married then!"
Emmy's friend grinned as well. "Then we will! Promise?" She stuck out her pinky.
"Promise!" Emmy stuck out her pinky too, and that was their promise to each other.
Their moms came up behind them. "C'mon girls! You have to say your goodbyes now!" Emmy's mom said.
Emmy nodded. "Okay mommy!" She turned to (Y/N) and hugged her best friend as tight as she could. "I'll see you Monday, (N/N)!"
(Y/N) returned the hug, giggling. "Bye Emmy!"
When they parted ways, (Y/N) tugged her mom's sleeve excitedly. "Mommy mommy! I'm gonna marry Emmy when I'm older!"
Her mom chuckled. "I'm sure you will, sweetheart."

The two best friends were lounging in Emmy's pool, yet another sunny Saturday. (Y/N) thought to herself a moment, then giggled. Emmy looked at her friend, confused.
"What's so funny, (N/N)?"
"I just remembered the day we said we were gonna marry each other. Remember that? When we were six?"
It was Emmy's turn to laugh. "Yeah! Do you think we'll actually get married still?"
(Y/N) nodded. "I sure hope so."
The two girls talked until they had to get out of the pool. The short-haired brunette looked at her best friend. "How about we make another promise; no matter what happens, we stay by each other's side!"
(Y/N) nodded. "Sounds like a promise to me!" They shook hands, and Emmy pulled her friend into another hug. However, she pulled a little too hard and the girls toppled over, a giggling mess.
"Best friends forever?" Emmy asked.
"Best friends forever!" (Y/N) answered.

A fallout. (Y/N) had developed a crush on her best friend, but Emmy had gotten herself a girlfriend. Sasha Hutchings. The. Emmy stopped talking to her. It left (Y/N) confused.
'Did I do something wrong? Has she already forgotten our promise of sticking together?'
The teen was determined to find out what she did wrong. She thought for months. After school one day, she traveled to Emmy's house. She knocked on the door. Emmy's mom answered the door.
"(Y/N)! It's been ages!"
Said girl nodded. "It really has! Is Emmy home?"
The mother nodded. "Yep! She's been upset lately though... maybe you can cheer her up! She's in her room."
(Y/N) nodded and thanked her, going up the stairs. She found Emmy's room down the hall and knocked.
"Go away!"
"Emmy it's me! (Y/N)!"
There was silence and the girl thought Emmy was ignoring her again until the door opened to reveal a distraught Emmy. (Y/N) gasped. "What happened Em?!"
Emmy only pulled her in, starting to explain everything to her confused best friend.
Sasha had told her to stop hanging out with (Y/N), and Emmy listened to her. But then she learned that Sasha wasn't who she seemed. She wasn't as kind as she once was (I love Sasha pls don't hate on her). They had broken up recently and it left Emmy upset.
(Y/N) explained to Emmy she wasn't mad. Emmy kept apologizing like crazy. "I didn't forget our promise, I swear! I'm sorry!"
(Y/N) only hugged her friend, and for the first time in months, they just had each other.

Emmy looked at her father, a gleam of excitement in her eyes. It was truly an exciting Saturday for her. Her father looked back at her and smiled.
"Ready to be a bride, Em?"
"Yeah! I can't believe it!"
Her father laughed. "One piece of advice for you, though."
"What is it, dad?"
"Smile. It's your big day."
Emmy smiled brightly as the front doors opened, Saturday's sunlight streaming into the church.
Emmy held her father's arm excitedly, soon locking eyes with her best friend as she walked. (Y/N) smiled and watched as Emmy walked up to the alter. She couldn't believe it was finally the day.
~
"You may now kiss the bride."
"Gladly."
Emmy was pulled into a kiss from her new wife. Neither Emmy nor (Y/N) could believe Emmy was finally getting married.
They couldn't believe they could finally live as best friends for eternity. They fulfilled the lives their six-year-old selves wanted to live; together.
