~ fifty years later ~
Your POV
It's been about fifty years since I found out Hercules died. Between then and now, I worked with Eliza and Angelica doing so much, after Alexander had passed.
Eliza and I interviewed all the soldiers who fought by Alex and Hercules's side. I was determined to tell my husband's story as well as Eliza's.
Together, Eliza, Angelica, and I looked through Alex's thousands of pages of writing. We agreed that he really did write like he was running out of time.
Eventually, Angelica passed away. She was always there when Eliza needed her, and even me. She was buried in Trinity Church, near Alex. Even then, we were still given more time. Eliza always told me that's what Alex had wanted; he had wanted more time. I told Eliza that Alex was probably over-joyed she got to live long.
We eventually raised enough funds for the Washington Monument in D.C., we wanted the world to know who our first president was.
We protested and fought against slavery. I could practically see John, my best friend, jumping around in excitement watching us do what he wanted to do years ago. I couldn't wait to finally see him again as well.
Eliza even helped me tell Hercules's story. We told the colonies what he did and how it helped us become free. I was so afraid it wasn't enough. Were they still going to tell our stories?
Even after all we did, we still got a little more time. But when our time was up, I wondered, 'have I done enough? Will they tell our stories?'
I had even helped Eliza establish the first private orphanage in New York City. I wasn't nearly as involved as she was, but I did all I could.
After that, I wonder again if we really had done enough. I could only hope.
Now, I knew my time was running out. I couldn't wait to see Hercules again. To see John and Angelica. To see Phillip and Peggy. I found myself falling asleep in a rocking chair.
When I woke up, I noticed how sunny it was, I noticed how I was almost sixty years younger. I was around the age where Hercules and I were in our first year of marriage. I was in a lighter colored version of my favorite (F/C) dress I used to always wear. I stood up, and was immediately tackled back down by a familiar freckled face. I gasped.
"John!"
We sat up and he pulled me into a tight hug. "It took you long enough, (N/N)! I've been waiting forever to see you again!"
I laughed. "I missed you too, Freckles. Now where is everyone else?"
John pulled me up. "Just follow me. I wanted to be the first person to see you. I knew you'd be here soon so I snuck away from everyone."
I giggled. "Classic Johnny."
As we walked he told me all about how everyone saw what Eliza and I (with the help of Angelica of course) had done. He said he was beyond excited when he saw Eliza and I fighting against slavery, like I had predicted.
Soon enough, I found a familiar crowd. "Hey! Guess who finally decided to show up an join us!" John called. Everyone turned around, gasping when they saw me but then smiling. I was squished into a giant group hug, when we broke, Alex looked at me. "Where's my Liza?" I shook my head. "I'm willing to bet she still has a couple months left, Alex. You'll see her soon though, I promise." Alex smiled, and I mentally 'aw'ed at how much they really did love each other.
I had noticed John had left, and was about to ask where he went, when he came back with a very familiar face. Hercules pouted. "Why did no one come tell me my wife finally arrived?"
I looked at him and saw the golden wedding ring like mine. I looked down at mine, noticing how shiny they were again, like when we first wore them. I immediately ran over to Hercules, jumping into his arms and almost knocking him down (which is almost surprising seeing how strong he is). He wrapped his arms around my waist tightly.
I heard John "awww" along with a few others, and I swear I heard sniffles from Lafayette. I only giggled, burying my face in Hercules's chest.
"I missed you, Herc," I mumbled.
"I missed you more, (N/N). Waiting fifty years for you sucked."
I couldn't help but laugh, and when we broke the hug I grabbed his arm, resting my head on it because I'm too short for him.
I was honestly over-joyed, being with everyone I loved again at once. The best part was I didn't even have to say goodbye after all.
