hello hello! you probably weren't expecting this one were you-
frankly, neither was i, but yeah, here we are? now that the hamilton movie is out, i wanted to again talk about some things
we're all aware of what's going on right now, right? the black lives matter movement, defunding the police, trying to take our f*cked president out of office... y'know, those things? the hamilfilm came out at a very interesting time
there's really two things i wanted to cover: stuff like that, and once again, the fandom
as many of the OBC have mentioned, hopefully the release of the hamilfilm also brings inspiration to viewers, especially the younger people. to put it simply, "history has its eyes on you [us]". the younger generation is a big part in bringing change the world needs, and hamilton has so many valuable messages for people realize, learn about, and use to help take action
don't be afraid to take action. if you have social medias, post about Black people. post about police brutality and defunding the police. post the truth about tr*mp. sign petitions. use your voice. if you can go to protests and marches, do that! it's clear we're finally starting to create changes. just be careful
history has its eyes on all of us. although we can't live forever, our legacy does. what we do and the big actions we take do. and that's important to remember
now, there's all sorts of backgrounds in the OBC; just to name a few, Jasmine is bi-racial, Oak is Nigerian, Lin and Anthony are Puerto Rican, and Pippa is Asian. as Lin has said, it's "america then told by america now"
that kinda brings me to my next point: the fandom itself, whether it be newcomers or veterans, and the people outside of it. let's talk about a little something called musical vs historical representation
i'm using a post from corncult_official on instagram to explain, so if you wanna see the original thing, check that out
cool? cool. aight, let's go
a vast majority of the fandom uses musical representation. i know i do. to put it simply, we use what Lin gave us with hamilton and we run with it and make it ours
rarely do we use historical representation. as mentioned, many cast members are POC; that kinda goes against historical representation (hello, slavery. more on that later). both representations are very, very different
that being said, we know the difference. we know it, and many of us acknowledge it. these once were real people with real lives. like i had said in my "tedtalk" for example, we know Laurens wasn't some gay turtle boy. he was a real, serious soldier. we know that
rolling with that really quick, many of the musical and historical counterparts are drastically different. it allows fans to pretty much see them as two separate people. but you can't let that make you think the musical version is 100% accurate. remember that difference
to put it this way: musical representation allows us to essentially paint these people in a newer light with what we were given. hence fanfiction, animatics, headcanons, AUs, you name it. we love what we were given, not what really went down, because we know. again, musical vs historical
here's the big one: outside of the fandom. people try to bash the fandom because they think we condone the actions of our founding fathers. by putting these people on essential pedestals, "they must approve of slavery and all that other sh*t, right? that's wrong!"
check again, hun
hello, yes, we're mostly all aware that many of the founding fathers were racist, sexist, and *ssholes to Native Americans. a vast majority of them owned slaves. we know that. once again, this is where we look at musical vs historical representation
