THE ANGST IS BACK!!!
/////////////////////////////
Wanda felt like she was suffocating. The straps confining her were too tight, and she could barely move. She was sitting down, and she wasn't able to get up on her own. If she wanted to stand up, she'd have to wait for a guard to help her.
She switched her legs from propped up to crisscross. She leaned against the wall, moving slowly so as not to trigger her shock collar. She had always felt like she was confined- she used 'straightjacket' as a metaphor often. But now that she was actually in one- well, she realized she had never truly been trapped before.
Guards kept coming in, asking where Steve and Bucky were. She kept telling them that she didn't know. That didn't stop them from shocking and beating her, trying to get her to talk. She didn't talk, of course. She wouldn't do that to Steve, or Bucky.
Steve was the first Avenger to trust her after Ultron, and she owed him for that. And Bucky was his best friend. She couldn't give them up, no matter how illegal it was. She was already in a straightjacket and shock collar at the world's highest security prison, getting beaten and shocked on a regular basis. How much worse could it possibly get?
She tried once again to get to feet, failing yet again. She groaned, then cringed as a shock made its way through her. A couple of guards rapped on the glass of her cell.
She moved her dead eyes upwards, but didn't move her head. She didn't want to get shocked again. She'd given up hope of being rescued, even though she could hear the others.
Sam was insistent that Steve would come for them. Scott told stories about his daughter, Cassie, to lighten the mood- Wanda's favorite was Cassie's birthday present that she had declared was "so ugly" and she "loved it". Clint often reassured Wanda that everything was going to be alright- even though she wasn't ever allowed to answer him. The only thing they ever heard from her were screams.
"Hey, b****!" One of the guards exclaimed.
Wanda didn't respond in any way.
"Hey, Maximoff, I'm talking to you, you little witch!"
Wanda's heart broke. Little Witch was what the Avengers called her as a pet name. She wasn't used to it being an insult. She didn't want it to be an insult. What she wanted more than anything was to hear Tony's or Rhodey's voices calling her that yet again. But she'd chosen her side. She wouldn't be talking to them anytime soon. She'd heard when Tony visited, but she never saw him. She'd just heard Clint yelling at him.
But it wasn't completely Tony's fault. He didn't know they'd end up at the Raft. He had somewhat betrayed them, yes. But he was following orders. D*** those Accords to-
"MAXIMOFF!"
The tone of voice made her instinctively jerk back. A huge shock ran through her at the sudden movement from her entirety, and she screamed. She collapsed to the side, landing on her stomach. It hurt, it hurt so bad. The guards laughed at her and walked away. That was clearly all they had come to do. Tears ran down her cheeks.
"Wanda!" She heard Clint yell. "It's gonna be alright, honey! It's going to be alright, I promise!"
"Yeah, Maxi!" Sam called. "Steve will come! Don't worry your pretty little head about it! He'll come and kill these f***ing guards and get us all out of here!"
There was a very loud shout of "SHUT UP!" from a guard after he said that.
But there was no guarantee that Steve was coming. It had been- well, Wanda had lost track of time a long time ago, but it had been a while- and he still hadn't come. Wanda had lost hope in him, in everything. She was going to be in this s***hole for the rest of her life. And given how bad the shocks were and how frequently they came, Wanda doubted her life would last much longer.
She was exhausted from that last shock and she felt her eyes start to shut. She heard her cell door open, but she didn't have the energy to see who it was. She sensed someone kneeling down next to her. Her eyes flickered over to see a male guard crouched by her side. He slid a hand under her chest, touching- she screamed. She was completely defenseless, and she HATED it. "DON'T TOUCH ME!"
One of the biggest shocks she had experienced forced its way through her, tearing a louder shriek from her mouth. Two more guards arrived, both female.
Fury filled both of their faces, and one grabbed the guy by his upper arms and started screaming at him. Wanda couldn't understand a word; her head felt like it was filled with cotton. The other guard sat down next to Wanda.
"You ok?" She asked gently, running her ID through a slit on Wanda's collar, releasing it. Wanda was able to breathe a little easier- the jacket was still suffocating.
Wanda nodded slightly. She'd had similar things happen before, in Sokovia. Though Pietro was usually the one who came to her rescue.
"You get the collar off for the rest of the night, alright? How's that sound?"
Wanda gave her a small smile.
The guard muttered something about how inhumane it was to put a kid in a shock collar and straightjacket before walking off. The other guard had already dragged away the male one.
Wanda felt her eyes slide shut, and she succumbed to the darkness of sleep. Relieved to be escaping the world, if only for a few hours.
