What if Steve's serum wore off? Wouldn't happen, of course, but what if?

Steve Rogers POV

"Rise and shine, friend Steve! I made pancakes and I didn't burn them!"

Thor excitedly runs down the hallway like the overgrown kid he actually is. "Alrighty, Thor. I'm coming."

I roll over in bed, seeing my old fashioned alarm clock. Seven am.

Upon sitting up, I immediately notice something strange. My feet are no longer sticking out of the blankets. Rather, they're buried under them, reaching only halfway across the bed. I see small, calloused hands in my lap.

Wait. Small?!

My heart is spiking as I leap out of bed, feeling lighter then I've felt in years. In the mirror, my old pre-serum self stares at me.

I slap myself in the face. Nope. It's not a dream.

Well. This kind of...sucks. I mean, all my clothes are way too big on me now.

In ten minutes, I've managed to get my cargo pants to fit with an old belt I never needed. My shirt is tucked into my jeans, and I'm good to go.

Now to face everyone else. Oh golly, how much teasing can I take? I'm not intimidating anymore.

I look for my shield, finding it on my dresser. I'll need it. I still want to look intimidating, even if I'm now below 5"10.

"Steve? You up yet?"

It's Natasha.

Ohhh boy. "Uhm.. I'll be out in a minute. Nat? Don't laugh at me when I come out, okay?"

She chuckles. "I won't, Steve. Just come out when you're ready."

I square my shoulders. I joined the Army. This is nothing!

My kid-size hand turns the doorknob, and suddenly, I'm looking at Natasha. No, I'm staring up at her.

She is clearly trying not to smile. I cross my arms. "Don't call me cute. Don't say it."

She lets a giggle escape. "You're-you're tiny!"

My face flushes, and I brush past her. "I'm still Captain America, Romanoff."

She regains her composure. "I'm sorry. It's just...you'll need new clothes."

I sigh, looking at myself. "I hate clothes shopping."

She leans in. "I know how to tailor clothes, though."

I brighten up. "Really? That would be a relief. Thank you, Natasha."

She shakes her head as we walk to Tony's kitchen. "It's so weird not having to look up anymore. Look sharp, Steve."

I finger my collar, remembering the days when I got them stained red from all the alley fighting. "Right."

Everyone looks different. They're all taller than me. It feels daunting, but also...comfortingly familiar. I feel like Steve again.

I never realized how tall Thor actually is. Even Tony seems tall now.

The thunder god seems confused at first. "Friend Steve? Where are-....oh."

He looks down at me, eyebrows raised in surprise as I get myself a plate of pancakes. "You...you...what sorcery became you, Steve?!"

I have to smile. He's not making fun of me! "My serum wore off. I'm back to my old size."

Thor blinks. "Your normal size is this? Well, Captain, you still look formidable."
