In the US, or parts of it at least, the tornado sirens are actually very similar to the sound of air raid sirens. Where I live, they do drills in spring. It's pretty scary to hear, even if it's just a drill. I remember one time that the sirens went off during a severe thunderstorm. I stayed in the basement for at least a half hour, partly because the sound made me even more scared. It turned out to be just a storm. The scariest storm I ever lived through had no warning, we just saw the dark clouds rolling in across the beach and ran to our vacation cabin. We got inside just in time.
Enough of my rambling, lol. I think Steve would get very anxious if he heard those sirens.Steve POV
"A tornado warning has been issued for New York. A tornado warning has been issued for New York. Take appropriate shelter now. I repeat, a tornado warning..."
A rather disturbing tone plays on the radio. On the television screen in front of us, a pop-up is displaying the same message. Outside, rain and wind are wrestling for dominance.
Tony seems only mildly concerned, shutting the windows and setting out candles and lanterns. Bruce is swallowing Xanax to keep himself calm. Natasha and Clint are outside on the deck, strangely enjoying the weather. I do not understand those two.
Thor is thoroughly enjoying himself. He passed Natasha's interrogation, so we know he isn't causing the weather. Not that he would anyway, the big fella is too busy cleaning out our poptart supply.
The Norse god is grinning at the window like it's a cinema screen. To him, it may as well be one. He is so easily entertained, it's amusing.
The room flashes with a burst of light. Grrrrrrr. The sky rumbles outside like a large sleeping tiger. My senses wake up at once, sensing a ninety year old danger.
Bruce speaks up from his spot next to mine. "Steve, you ever heard tornado sirens before? You look tense. Storms not your cup of tea?"
I look at my pencil straight posture I went into without thinking. Quietly sighing, I try not to instinctively grab my shield. "Reminds me too much of flying a plane through live rounds. I don't recommend it."
"I will ensure your safety, Sir Steve. I swear on the Bifröst, I will personally handle the storm myself and make sure it does not cause harm to my mortal friends."
I smile at Thor, who is holding out his large calloused pinky. I return my end of the pinky promise. "Thanks, Thor. Tony, how strong is this building?"
Tony swivels around on his heel, one hand tapping a rythmn on his arc reactor. "If you're worried about a little windstorm blowing out the windows, Capsicle, you can relax. I made sure to make it very durable. But Point Break here apparently is his own weather control board, so I think we're good. Hey Einstein, you feeling green at all?"
Bruce smiles tiredly. "I feel like I'm on Xanax, but other then that, I'm good."
Natasha and Clint come back inside, rain soaked but laughing. "Clint, don't even think about shooting an electrified arrow in a thunderstorm!"
Clint retorts, "I'm not doing it now! Just saying it's a good strategy! Whoa... tornado sirens again."
A familiar noise begins outside. My breath catches in my chest. Everything around me slips away. Then, I fly to my feet, my blueberry muffins falling to the carpeted floor.
I summon my shield and yell in my Captain voice. "Tony, where is your fallout shelter?!"
He looks a little alarmed. He should! Those are air raid sirens! "Cap, they're just a precaution. We'll go downstairs if we need to. But we're safe right now."
