Hermione and Mikayla exchanged whispers across the dorm for maybe thirty minutes before Hermione got so tired she couldn't keep it up. Mikayla let her sleep, she wished she could get to sleep herself. A part of her was struggling to keep her eyes open while the other part was absolutely terrified to fall asleep again. Mikayla stayed like that for a few hours, she kept looking out the window and fiddling with her hair just to stay occupied. When she couldn't bare it anymore she uncovered herself and got out of bed. The floor was uncomfortably cold so Mikayla slipped some long socks on before she shuffled her way out of the room. From the stairs she could hear the fire crackling and nothing else, it was welcoming. Mikayla sunk herself into the far right side of the couch facing the fire, her legs tucked underneath her body. Mikayla thought maybe if she did fall asleep here at least she wouldn't wake anyone up screaming if she had a vision. It seemed to be a recurring idea for her, let the other girls sleep and hope the best for herself.

"What are you doing up?" A voice called from across the room. Mikayla turned her head, Harry was standing at the base of the stairs, one hand on the wall. "I could ask you the same question," she fired back. "I... couldn't sleep," he said with hesitation. "Couldn't or didn't want to?" Mikayla asked with the smallest hint of a laugh. "It was somewhat of both," he admitted, sitting down on the other side of the couch she was on. They both just sat there in silence for a while, staring at the fire. Eventually Mikayla started getting answers off Harry how his Occlumency lessons actually went, he asked Mikayla more about her little episode on Christmas Day. "How do you feel finally saying goodbye to them?" Harry questioned looking at Mikayla's face that was lit up with the reflection of the fire, "I honestly don't know how I feel about it. But it's done now, so not much I can do about it." Mikayla shrugged staring at her hands. There was a slight silence as Mikayla's words hung in the air. The pair tried to keep each other awake for a few hours, cracking jokes through slurring speech and occasionally kicking one another. But at some point in the early morning, they both dozed off on that couch. Mikayla's legs were stretched out on top of his, a throw blanket poorly spread over both of them, but it was a nice, less anxiety provoking way to fall asleep.

The next morning they found out almost immediately what had made Voldemort so happy that it overwhelmed Harry. At breakfast Hermione has just barely finished smoothing out her Daily Prophet before she yelped and caught the attention of anyone within fifteen feet. "What?" The three others asked simultaneously, Mikayla leaned over to try and read her paper. She flattened it out on the table for them all to see, Hermione pointed to ten photos, all but one of wizards and the exception a witch. Under each photo was a name and a crime they committed. Mikayla skimmed the names, Antonin Dolohov, Augustus Rookwood, Rabastan Lestrange, Bellatrix Lestrange. Mikayla look up to see Avery with her mouth hung open, Avery got up and rushed away from the Slytherin table, Mikayla excused herself rushing after her step sister. Seems like she wasn't the only one who noticed Avery's brisk exit, Brian Smirnov and Draco we're leaving the table once Mikayla reached the exit. She spotted Avery rushing down the corridor, "AV WAIT!" Mikayla yells running to catch up with the Slytherin, the two girls walked in silence before reaching Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. Avery walks in first, Mikayla checks the corridor spotting the boys and quickly rushing inside hoping they didn't see her. "You don't think she'll try and find me do you Kay?" Was the first thing Avery said to her step sister, Mikayla was honestly lost for words, "Avery, I will do anything that'll stop that from happening, even if it means breaking the law." Avery suddenly wrapped Mikayla into a suffocating hug, Mikayla gently stroked Avery's hair whispering calming thoughts into the distraught girl's ear. "We're coming in!" Brian speaks strongly, before him and Draco join the girls in the bathroom. Draco and Mikayla make eye contact, he looked unsure as to what he needed to do but Mikayla knew that he did really want to help Avery. Mikayla guided Avery to the wall and the pair slide to the ground, Brian took his place on the other side of Avery and Draco sat down beside Mikayla. "Was it really your dad Black?" Brian questioned, before Mikayla could say anything it was Avery who spoke up, "of course it wasn't Sirius, it was him. Voldemort." Mikayla could sense Draco's body tense, without acknowledging what she was doing Mikayla places a comforting hand on Draco's arm. "No it wasn't my dad, he's not even in Britain at the moment, but why would you ask?" Mikayla spoke quietly, she may have been lying hoping Draco would tell his dad but she also felt guilty for lying to them. "You didn't read the article did you?" Brian spoke quietly, "I was more worried about Avery than the lies the Prophet prints, why?" Mikayla asked looked at the three Slytherins, it was Draco who spoke up. "The Minister told the prophet that your dad helped the prisoners escape." "What!?" Mikayla was clearly upset but once she saw Avery's frown, her anger slipped away and she continued to comfort her sister.

Avery cried a little, before Brian carried her back to the Slytherin dorm, Draco was waiting near Gryffindor tower whilst Mikayla grabbed something that will help Avery relax after all her distress. Mikayla rushes out the corridors were mostly empty as people were still at breakfast. "Here." Mikayla hands Draco a blanket, a candle and a packet of cookies, he looked at the blonde strangely, but decided not to question it. "Take care of her Malfoy, please." Draco could see the desperation and worry in Mikayla's that his usual scowl softened to a small smile, "I promise." Mikayla smiled in return, giving Draco a quick hug and a thankful kiss on the cheek before rushing back to the Great Hall. Draco stood stunned for a few moments his hand laid lightly where Mikayla had planted her soft lips seconds beforehand. Draco cleared his throat and made his way to Avery with her comfort supplies.

Mikayla heads straight for her friends, to see a large headline that read: MASS BREAKOUT FROM AZKABAN MINISTRY FEARS BLACK IS "RALLYING POINT" FOR OLD DEATH EATERS "Are they imbeciles?" Mikayla questioned rather loudly, people started to stare at her. She noticed a handful of people were already watching her though, the Prophet in front of them too. "Oh, go back to your toast!" She shouted at them, they turned their heads back away. "Sit down," Hermione warned her, Mikayla followed the command grumpily. "I can't believe this, how thick can they possibly be?" She fumed. "Read the rest of it," Hermione said quietly, pushing the paper over to Mikayla

The Ministry of Magic announced late last night that there has been a mass breakout from Azkaban. Speaking to reporters in his private office, Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic, confirmed that ten high-security prisoners escaped in the early hours of yesterday evening and that he has already informed the Muggle Prime Minister of the dangerous nature of these individuals. "We find ourselves, most unfortunately, in the same position we were two and a half years ago when the murderer Sirius Black escaped," said Fudge last night. "Nor do we think the two breakouts are unrelated. An escape of this magnitude suggests outside help, and we must remember that Black, as the first person ever to break out of Azkaban, would be ideally placed to help others follow in his footsteps. We think it likely that these individuals, who include Black's cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange, have rallied around Black as their leader. We are, however, doing all we can to round up the criminals and beg the magical community to remain alert and cautious. On no account should any of these individuals be approached.

Mikayla scoffed and handed Hermione back the paper. "How blind can Fudge possibly be to need to blame it on Sirius?" Mikayla spat quietly. "What other options does he have?" said Hermione crossly. "He can hardly say, 'Sorry everyone, Dumbledore warned me this might happen, the Azkaban guards have joined Lord Voldemort'- stop whimpering, Ron- 'and now Voldemort's worst supporters have broken out too.' I mean, he's spent a good six months telling everyone Harry and Dumbledore are liars, hasn't he?" She tore it open again and began to read the more in-depth report inside. Mikayla pushed her breakfast plate away, no longer feeling up to eating. Mikayla looked around the hall, catching people hastily looking away from her, she spots Neville a few rows down from her, he looks upset. Mikayla made a self note to talk to him later.
