Cracking

A week later Mikayla was in the common room studying alone, Ginny rushed over to her holding a chocolate egg. "The Easter eggs mum sent have finally gotten through Umbridge's checkpoint." Ginny handed Mikayla the chocolate frog, bringing a small smile on Mikayla's face. Mikayla cracked the egg in half and invited Ginny to join her in eating it as they had a little girl chat. "I don't think me and Michael are gonna last much longer..." Mikayla furrowed her eyebrows looking at Ginny as to ask why, "he's over the moon about you being off the team, saying that you deserved to kicked off for how you hurt Cho." Mikayla nodded, "don't let me be the reason you two split. I've done enough damage as it is." Mikayla chuckles to play off her self deprecating comment before taking a bite of chocolate. "Are you ok? You know after Cho kissed Fred." Mikayla shook her head no, "honestly, it made me realise how much I like Fred. I just wish he felt the same." Mikayla shrugged eating her chocolate egg. "I think he thinks you don't want to get back with him." Ginny suggests a problem with the progress of Mikayla and Fred's relationship. "I was wondering.. would you want to write a song with me?" Ginny questioned, Mikayla has been hoping she'd find a reason to write again, she nods agreeing to write a song with Ginny.

Mikayla and Ginny sat on Mikayla's bed, keyboard and guitar in hands as they build a melody. "Help me, it feels like the walls are caving in." Ginny sings, Mikayla shakes her head no, "take the word feels out." Ginny nods and Mikayla replays the first line melody, "Help me, it's like the walls are caving in." "Sometimes I feel like giving in." Mikayla tries to add another sentence, "up instead of in." Ginny suggests, Mikayla agrees with the change. It took an hour before the girls perfected the song. They made their way to the courtyard to get some fresh air, with their instruments in hand, so that they can practice their new song. Mikayla spots Avery walking with Draco, she smiles and waves at the happy pair of friends. Avery and Draco turn and approached Mikayla and Ginny who shared confused look as to why they were approaching them. "I want to hear it." Avery gestured to the instruments. Mikayla changed some of the lyrics to fit Avery, handing her the lyric book. "If Umbridge sees me singing, I'll get detention. I'll play the keyboard, Draco? Can you figure out the guitar?" He nods the pair join Mikayla and Ginny sitting on the ground."3..2..1..."(Ginny- Sarah, Avery- Macy Kate)

"Mikayla Black what are you doing?" Umbridge came strutting towards the four students. "She's playing the keyboard because Ginny and I wanted to see if our song was any good Headmistress." Avery spoke respectfully and with a suck up attitude. Umbridge smiled, handing Avery a pin with an 'I' on it. "Welcome to the Inquisitoral Squad Miss O'Brien. I trust you and Mr Malfoy to punish this rule breaking correctly." Mikayla stood up towering Umbridge, "and what rule did I break?" Umbridge smirks, "you're no longer in the Elites, therefore you can't play music on the Hogwarts grounds." Mikayla scoffed rolling her eyes, "there's no rules about it. I've learned the rule book off by heart. Just because I'm not in a club anymore." Umbridge tuts, smirking at the blonde, "yes but as you'll remember music is banned in the castle unless given permission, Miss Black." Mikayla steps closer to the Professor, "I'm not in the castle Professor Umbridge." Umbridge's smile faltered slightly before she puffed up her chest, "detention now, follow me." Mikayla told Ginny to bring her instruments back to her dormitory before following Umbridge to her classroom.

"You shall write, 'I will not break the rules or disrespect my headmistress' until I tell you to stop." Mikayla nodded, no matter how much she used to get detention, she never got used to the Blood Quill.

It felt like her hand was on fire and being sliced on the bone, as she wrote the sentence over two hundred times. Her blood was all over her left hand, her eyes watered from the pain but she didn't let Umbridge hear her whimper. She didn't want to satisfy Umbridge by cracking under the pain of her hand.

She kept writing, cutting deeper and deeper, and half way through her 210th line Professor McGonagall bursted in. She saw Mikayla writing lines and looked like she was about to blow a fuse when she saw the blood dripping from Mikayla's hand to the desk. "Headmistress, I was hoping Miss Black would hang up these notices for Career Advice for fifth year students." Umbridge looked at Mikayla with a satisfied smirk at the blood that trailed down her arm. "Minerva, I trust you know I shall be supervising these meetings." McGonagall nodded confirming she knew that Umbridge wanted to supervise. "Ok Miss Black you are dismissed." Mikayla slowly and quietly gathered her things not wanting to give Umbridge a reason to keep her longer.

Mikayla followed McGonagall out of the room and to the hospital wing. "I don't need to go there Professor." Mikayla tried to argue, "how so?" Mikayla looked around to make sure no one would over hear her, "because of this..." Mikayla pulled out a single vial of healing potion, put two drops on her hand, rubbing it in and McGonagall watched in surprise that bleeding stopped and the cut scared almost disappearing. "What is that stuff?" "I called it Carra Curatio. It's a healing potion I invented. It can heal most things. Here." Mikayla pulled out a full vial giving it to Professor McGonagall, "just incase." McGonagall took the healing potion smiling at Mikayla. "Are you wanting to pursue healing?" Mikayla shook her head no, "I did want to at first but mum told me that I need to find my own path and not just follow hers." Mikayla took the notices off McGonagall, and began hanging them around the school, she asked Hannah, Luna and Avery to put it in their houses' notice board since Mikayla doesn't know how to get into their common rooms. She got them all up just before curfew, the second she returned to Gryffindor Tower, she made her way straight up the stairs and into bed.
