The next day Mikayla woke up bright eyed and bushy haired, since she had slept with her hair in plaits (braids). She fixed her hair, brushed her teeth and got dressed into her uniform before shaking the other girls awake. Mikayla told Hermione she was going to get the boys whilst Hermione got dressed. Mikayla knocked on the boys dorm and she got no response other than a loud snore. Mikayla walked into the room to see the boys all had their four poster curtains drawn as they were all still asleep. Mikayla took Ron's alarm clock set the alarm for two minutes time before multiplying it and placing one over and under each bed. Just as Mikayla left the room, all the alarms started and she heard girlish screams of shock and then shouting about who did it. Mikayla knocked on the door again before Seamus angrily opened the door, "Finite Incantatem." With that only one alarm rang on Ron's chest of drawers, "sorry boys, but if you want to eat before Transfigurations, I had to wake you up sometime. Ron, Harry? Hermione and I will wait for you two in the common room." They both tiredly nodded, "if you're not down in five minutes, I'm coming back her and I'll give you the same treatment Warrington got." She informs them before turning around and going downstairs.
In less that three minutes Ron and Harry came running down the stairs to met the girls, still pulling their jumpers and their ties untied. Mikayla tied Harry's tie whilst Hermione did Ron's as they walked to the Great Hall. "Thanks." Harry smiled when Mikayla handed him back his tie, "no problemo Haribo!" Mikayla chuckled, Harry looked at Mikayla confused. "You have a packet of Haribo jellies under your bed." Mikayla whispered in the belief they were under his bed so Ron wouldn't eat them on him. "Oh yeah... I'll have those later." Harry smiled happily at the reminder of his jellies. The foursome shovelled breakfast into their mouths whilst also trying to cram in some last minute study of Transfiguration.
Once breakfast was over, the fifth and seventh years, for the second time this week, lapped around in the Entrance Hall while the other students went off to lessons. At 9:30, they were called forward class by class to re-enter the Great Hall, that had been rearranged again to hundreds on small desks facing the staff table at the other end of the hall. McGonagall stood facing them, watching them as they all took their seats, and pull out their materials until the room fell silent. "You may begin." Her voiced echoed through the hall, as she turned over an enormous hourglass on the desk beside her.
The room flipped over their papers, Mikayla wrote her name on the top of her answer parchment neatly. She dipped her quill into her ink bottle before reading the first question a) what is the definition of Transfigurations and b) name the five different types of transfigurations and c) describe each type. Mikayla began writing out her answer, she struggled on the fifth type of transfigurations, it wasn't until she went to move onto the next question that it clicked and she finished her first answer.
Question 1
A) Transfiguration is a branch of magic that focuses on the alteration of the form or appearance of an object, via the alteration of the object's molecular structure. Transfiguration can be done to most (if not all) objects and, as with most forms of magic, it includes, but is hardly limited to, Transfiguration spells.
B) There are five types of Transfigurations, they are; Transformation, Switching, Vanishment, Conjuration and Untransfiguration.
C) Transformation- Transformation Transfiguration is a branch of Transfiguration that focuses on altering the physical features of an object. It is not to be confused with Trans-species Transformation, though that is a type of transformation.
Switching- Switching is a sub-branch of Transfiguration and a form of transformation, it is the art of magically exchanging physical features between two targets. Switching targets in this manner can be accomplished with Switching spells. The only known sub-group of switching is Cross-Species Switches.
Vanishment- Vanishment is the magical art of vanishing objects i.e. causing object to cease to exist. It is the opposite of Conjuration.
Conjuration- Conjuration is an advanced form and type of Transfiguration. Conjurations were distinguished from the other branches of Transfiguration, by their ability to transfigure the desired object from 'thin air'.
Untransfiguration- Untransfiguration is a qbranch of transfiguration magic and a type of counter-spell, which involves returning something to its proper form, reversing the effects of a transfiguration.Satisfied Mikayla returned to the second question, 2) give the incantation for the most common untransfigurations spell. Mikayla remember this one for when Moody turned Draco into a ferret and McGonagall said this spell to turn him back to his slimy self.
Question 2
The incantation for the most common Untransfiguration spell is; Reparifarge.Mikayla moves on throughout the exam she got stuck on a handful of questions but when she was rereading her exam, she remembered the rest of the answers. Mikayla finished ten minutes before the exam was officially over, she spent those last ten minutes, writing down all the spells she's learned in transfigurations and what the incantation for each of them. McGonagall looked pretty pleased at the blonde when she was handing up a lot of parchment with her exam, she didn't however have the same expression when taking Pansy's exam off her which made Mikayla smile.
After lunch the fifth years waited in the same small chambers to the side of the Great Hall waiting to be called for their Transfiguration practical. "Mikayla Black, Susan Bones, Terry Boot, Mandy Brocklehurst, Lavender Brown, Millicent Bulstrode." Mikayla wished her friends luck once again before entering the Great Hall. This time she approach Professor Tofty, he was clearly the oldest there, but Harry told the blonde that he's very nice and helpful. "Miss Black is it?" Mikayla nodded, Tofty examined the girl's appearance before saying another word. "You are the spit of your mother." Mikayla blushed thanking the Professor, "she was a great witch, a lot to live up to it." Mikayla nodded, "my mum always said I got her brains." Mr Tofty smiled, "I do hope so."
"Now, can you turn this glass into a bird," "yes I can." Mikayla smile, taking out her wand and ever so gently saying the incantation, "Avifors." The Hogwarts glass turned into Sanderling, the bird tweeted happily, and hopped along the desk. "Perfect." Tofty smiled as the petted the bird. He turned the bird back to a plate and swapped it with a cardboard box that had holes in it. When he took the lid off he revealed a black cat, the cat sat up once it could and looked at Mikayla curiously, "can you turn Mewt into a cauldron?" Mikayla looked at the confused as to if she heard its name right, "Mewt is it?" Mikayla questioned the Professor who nodded laughing, "After Newt Scalamander." He informed her with a smile, Mikayla took Mewt out of the box, the cat purred into her arms before Mikayla placed him on the desk. She pulled out her wand, the cat's curious face was looking back at her once again. "Felifors." The cat moulded into a black cauldron, it was the same size as the ones she uses for potions.
