You were bored out of you mind and with nothing else to do, you turned on your watch. You didn't really have a specific destination to go to so you closed your eyes and spun both handles to land at a random time and area.
"Hmm. Mystic Falls, 1864. Sounds interesting."
You pressed enter, immediately opening up a portal for you to go through.

It was love at first sight when you saw Katherine at the local bar. You were shy to go up and talk to her but you knew that if you didn't then you were never going to see her again. It certainly helped that you weren't from around the city or year so if anything went wrong, you would just leave and forget about what happened.
"Could I get you a drink?"
You asked as you sat besides her. Katherine turned around and gave you a flirty smile as she clearly checked you out. It made you blush as you felt her eyes roam your body but you didn't say anything.
"I could use a drink."
She finally answers. You motion for the bartender to give you two more glasses and soon enough the two of you start talking as if you were old friends. Both of you kept drinking until eventually the bartender had to cut the two of you off since you had gotten quite drunk. Katherine looked like she was on her first drink and it surprised you with the fact that she could hold her liquor well.
"Come on, you're not in any condition to go home. You can stay with me."
She takes you back to her place and lets you stay in her guest bedroom.

You ended up sticking around Mystic Falls in 1864 because you had thought that you honestly had a chance with Katherine. She liked to tease and flirt with you so you figured that she must've liked you back. It's not until you meet the Salvatore brothers that you realize that Katherine just liked keeping you around for fun. All that teasing and flirting with you was just a game for her. Her true goal was the Salvatore brothers.
So one night when you knew that no one was going to bother you, you set your watch back to the present time and headed back home. There was no reason for you to stay in 1864 since Katherine didn't return your feelings. You had already been burned enough times so you weren't going to let it happen again.
Katherine knew the exact moment when you had left. She had been unable to hear your heartbeat anymore and it worried her that something must've happened to you. She cared a great deal for you so she enlisted the help of the brothers to search for you but the three of them came empty handed.
"I'm sorry Katherine. There's no trace of her."
Katherine wasn't the same after that. She had blown her chance with someone that she had fallen for and she knew that she would never be able to fall in love with another person after meeting you.

You had tried everything to get Katherine out of your mind but it was impossible. You had fallen for her quite hard and you regretted leaving without saying goodbye. It could've served as some closure for you but now it was just too late.
The main thing that also kept you from moving on was the fact that something was calling you to Mystic Falls. You weren't sure what it was and as much as you tried to ignore that feeling, you just couldn't. So you packed up all your belongings and moved to town.
That's when you found them. Katherine and the Salvatore brothers walking downtown. It shocked you to see them still alive and looking exactly the same after 156 years. You wanted to just ignore them and pretend like you hadn't seen them but it was impossible for you to do so. Perhaps, they were the reason that you were being called to Mystic Falls.
"Katherine?"
'Katherine' turns around and you could immediately tell that it wasn't her. She frowns at you for a second and then looks at the brothers, like she knew that they would recognize you.
"(y/n), lets talk somewhere private."
You nearly had a heart attack when he said your name. They didn't really give you a choice so you just followed them along to an empty building.
"H..how are you alive? What are you?"
"We could ask you the same thing."
"I asked you first."
Damon rolls his eyes and starts telling you everything. Including how they had been turned to vampires by Katherine. He explained that Katherine had been devastated when you had left that she couldn't bare to lose anyone else so she turned them.
"Well, we told you how we're still alive. What about you?"
"This watch helps me time travel. I usually just used it to visit random cities at random times and that's how I stumbled into Mystic Falls in 1864. W...what happened to Katherine? Where is she and who is she?"
You asked while pointing to the woman that looked almost identical to your Katherine.
They were about to answer when something sped past them and then stood in front of you. Your eyes widened when you were looking directly at Katherine.
"Kat..."
Katherine cupped both your cheeks and kissed you deeply.
"I'm sorry, I just didn't want to make the mistake that made you leave. I should've just told you how I felt instead of just trying to make you jealous. I'm so sorry."
You knew she was just going to continue apologizing so you cut her off with another kiss.
"It was both our faults, Katherine. What matters now is that we're together again."
