You sighed loudly as you looked up at your red string. Ever since you learned about the red string of fate, it bothered you that yours was heading towards the sky. When you told your parents about it, they freaked out and simply explained to you how death worked. Strings pointing towards were basically unheard of and with the limited knowledge of it, they just wanted to prepare you for the worst. You didn't believe them at first, thinking that maybe they weren't from Earth or something like that but as you continued to age and the string never lowered, you realized that maybe they were right.

You're 14 years old when the string is no longer pointing up but rather pointing to the North. You stare at it in amazement wondering what the hell happened for it to no longer point upward. Your parents were the first people to know about the knew development because you thought they would honestly be happy for you that you had a soulmate but just angrily yelled at you and told you to never speak of them. That they weren't human like you and to might as well just cut the string to reject them. They tried to take you to someone that specialize in that but you ran away before it was cut off. Since then, you've been on the run. Avoiding cops and anyone else that would want to take you back to them. Your intention was to head towards your aunt's place since you remembered how your father never spoke of them, saying how she betrayed the family for loving someone that wasn't human.
You arrived into her welcome arms almost a few days later. Your father had apparently called them to ask for them and they figured that you would soon appear at their front door after knowing what had happened.
"Your father said that your string used to point towards the sky and then you woke up last week to find it pointing north."
You nod, happy to talk to someone about your soulmate.
"You know, that's what happened to me and your uncle. He came to Earth for refuge and I ended up finding him in one of the shelters that helped aliens that escaped their planet."
The entire night, you listened in amazement as they told you their life story and all the struggles they went through when they got together. Hearing their story made you excited to find your soulmate and learn more of them.

You're 23 when your strings starts to go haywire. At times, it's pointing towards the sky and then it would move down to point back to the west. Sometime in the last year, they had ended up moving to the west. Unsure of what this meant, you asked your aunt to help you understand what was going on.
"It's possible that your soulmate can fly. It's unheard of but aliens that can fly are possible. Just look at Superman."
"What like that new hero, Supergirl?" You start to laugh, wiping the tears away from your eyes as you imagine yourself dating her. "Don't be ridiculous aunt, Supergirl can't be my soulmate."
She's not laughing as she answers you. "She could be or it could be someone else. I'm just saying to not dismiss the fact that your soulmate is a superhero or a flying alien."
