Chapter 30 [Babysitter]

That day, I went home late. Pinilit kong tapusin ang lahat ng paperworks kanina para sa susunod ay bawas na ang trabaho ko. But as soon as I step on the floor of our main living room, I felt a stinging pain on my head.

The pain was bearable but I still stopped for a moment to wait for it to subside. I usually get headaches whenever I'm stressed or overworked.

"Harper?"

I looked up to see Mom rushing towards me. Isa pa sa mga dahilan kung bakit nagpagabi ako ay dahil iniiwasan kong magka-engkwentro kami ni Mom. I know it's close to impossible and almost stupid because we're living under the same roof.

Bumalik ako sa paghakbang, ininda na lamang ang kumikirot kong ulo.

"Can we talk?"

Nilagpasan ko siya hindi dahil binabastos ko siya kundi dahil gusto ko nang umakyat sa aking kwarto at magpahinga. I need to get some sleep so the pain on my head would disappear.

"Harrison Jasper, kinakausap kita!"

Tumigil ako at napabuntong hininga na lamang. I know we still haven't talked about the night that I caught her with the mayor's father, maybe I don't want to talk about it or maybe I'm not ready yet to accept it.

Humarap ako sa kanya at nasilayan ko ang kasabikan sa kanyang mga mata na makausap ako.

"Mom, not now. I know we need to talk but not now, please? I'm already tired and I need to rest." halos walang lakas kong katwiran dala na rin siguro ng pagod.

"What? Are you okay? Did you already eat?" lumapit pa siya sa akin at hinaplos ang magkabilang braso ko. May emosyon ng pag-aalala sa kanyang mga mata.

No matter how many secrets she's keeping from me, I can't still deny the fact that she's a good mother to me. Istrikto man at laging kinokontrol ang buhay ko, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be who I am now.

"I'm okay, Mom. It's just a stupid headache but I'm fine." I tried to convince her that it wasn't life threatening so she did let me go.

Pag-akyat ko ng aking kwarto ay mas lalong pumintig ang kirot sa aking ulo. I feel my head spinning. I started to feel queasy so I immediately searched for my pills on the cabinet drawers. Hindi ko pa man nahahanap ay nagtatakbo na ako sa banyo at doon sumuka.

"Damn..." nakatanghod ako sa harap ng toilet bowl pagkatapos kong sumuka at saka kumuha ng tissue at inirolyo ito sa aking kamay. I wiped my mouth as well as my forehead as sweat trickles down on it.

With all the symptoms I'm getting, I began to think how many weeks I'm already pregnant. Silly me, naalala kong hindi ko pa nga pala naisuko ang bataan kaya imposibleng mangyari 'yon. I get crazier whenever I think about it.

I set aside all the nauseous feelings and decided to get some rest.

Next morning, I felt better. Bumaba na ako upang sumalo sa aming almusal. I found Mom, Kuya Atom, Kuya Evan, Ate Jacky and the kids on the dining table already eating their breakfast. Nahuli ako dahil natagalan pa ako sa pagshower.

Mom's eyes are fixed on me but I gave my best to not look at her. I joined their breakfast as I silently listened to their conversation.

"Susunduin ko mamaya, Mom. Don't worry." iyon ang pinal na pahayag ni Kuya Atom.

I didn't get the whole gist of their talk because I sometimes get lost in my reverie. Hindi rin naman ako nasasali sa usapan kaya hindi ko masyadong nasundan ang agos ng usapan nila. All I know is Kuya Atom's girlfriend is already here in the country and they are planning to gather a family dinner some time.
