CONTINUATION OF FLASHBACK

OTTAWA, CANADA

I still can't believe that my mother is pregnant with my boyfriend's father. At first, I thought she was kidding but when Tita Astrid confirmed it, I didn't know what to do. My mom was four weeks pregnant and it was so unlikely to conceive naturally at her age but it was possible, according to Tita Astrid.

"The pregnancy may be more challenging as the person gets older, there is also an increased risk of stillbirth. But many women do successfully deliver healthy babies over the age of fourty.." Tita Astrid explained one time when we were at home.

Sunod niyang ipinaliwanag ang lahat ng possible risk ng pagbubuntis ni Mom. Habang nakikinig ay hindi ko maintindihan kung ano ang dapat kong maramdaman. I haven't completely accepted her relationship with Tito Henry yet and now she bears his child? And since she told me not to tell anyone means that neither Tito Henry nor Blade knows about her pregnancy.

"Are you going to tell him?" isang beses kong sinubukang tanungin si Mom nang mapag-isa kami sa bahay.

I was at her room. Hindi siya mapakali at kung anu-ano nalang ang ginagawa niya sa mga gamit niya. It seemed like she was trying to find something.

"Mom, I'm asking you. Are you going to tell him?" I repeated with more emphasis on the last word. I hope she would understand what I was trying to ask though it occured to me that she was not taking it seriously.

For one brief moment, she stopped and gave me a nervous look. "W-Who?" she stuttered, pretending as if she didn't know who I was pertaining to.

I gave her a flat reaction. "The father of that child." tugon ko at saglit na pinasadahan ng tingin ang kanyang tiyan, sinubukan kong hindi banggitin ang pangalan nito dahil nakaramdam ako na mas lalo siyang matataranta kung maririnig nito ang pangalan ni Tito Henry.

She paced back and forth then rested both of her hands on her hips. She was sighing profusely every now and then.

"Mom?" I called her out to get her attention.

"I-I don't know, Harper!" she squeaked but soon realized her sudden freak-out. She then sat up on the bed and looked down on her knees. "We're not even sure if I can deliver this baby or if..." she hesitated for a second and then continued, "I-If he would like to accept another child."

I understand her frustrations since it's not an easy decision. But I have known Tito Henry and I know that he's a good father. I don't see him denying a kid of his own, ever.

"Of course Mom, he will. He has five sons, remember? Another child won't be a burden to him." saad ko upang maliwanagan siya at kahit papaano ay mabawasan ang mga pangamba niya.

Pumikit siya at huminga ng malalim. And when a tear escaped her eyes, I stepped closer and sat beside her patting her back. "I broke up with him before we fly here for your treatment." anunsyo niyang nakapagpatigil sa akin.

She wiped her own tears as I sat there dumbfounded.

"You what? You broke up with him? W-Why?!" it seemed like I was more agitated than she ever was. I couldn't even fathom why this news upsets me since I wasn't totally in accord with their relationship.

"It's a lot. He has his own family and I have mine. I have to stop it now before it gets worse." her tears flowed even more so I stopped myself from throwing her more questions.

The next following days, I have decided not to open that topic again because stress won't be good for her and for the baby. Hindi na muling bumisita sina Kuya dahil alam nilang nagrerecover nalang ako at malayo na sa kapahamakan.
