Chapter 37 [Sick]

Sinalubong ako ni Kean nang makapasok ako sa loob ng shop. Following him is the technician-looking guy who stormed outside with a toolbox in his hand. Kean stood in front of me while his both hands rest on his pelvis.

"The technician tried to figure out if there's anything wrong with the computer but..." he paused for a brief second. "He found none, Harper. There's nothing wrong with it."

There is this skeptical look on his face that I wasn't certain if he's doubtful about the nonexistent problem or doubtful about me insisting that there's something faulty about the computer.

I sighed. "Did he check the wirings? Or the screen resolution? I was pretty sure something's wrong with it." pagpupumilit ko, hindi ko rin naman talaga ipipilit kung wala, nagbabaka-sakali lang na tama ang hinala ko na wala sa akin ang mali.

"He checked everything, Harp." marahan ang pag-iling niya at saka saglit na tumingin sa kawalan. Naramdaman kong mayroon na siyang sariling kongklusyon nang ibalik niya sakin ang kanyang mga mata.

"I'm sorry." that was all I could say.

If there's nothing wrong with it, maybe it's on me.

"Is there... something I should know about?" naninimbang ang tinging ipinukol sa akin ni Kean. I couldn't deny the feeling that he already conjured it up on his mind and he just doesn't like to get straight to the point. Ayaw niya rin siguro akong pangunahan kaya niya tinitimbang ang sitwasyon.

"No, everything's fine. Don't worry about it, Kean. I'm sorry and hindi na 'to mauulit, I promise." I left him a soft tap on his shoulder and walked past him so I could evade his interrogation.

Ilang hakbang lang ay nakarating ako sa counter. I stalled there for a moment to shake myself off. Just when I got rid of my unsettling thoughts, I heard the clang of the bell above the main door to announce someone's arrival.

Danica Luisa Graciano walks in with a dog leash on her hand with her brown hair swaying, saka ko lamang napansin ang alagang aso ni Diego na dala niya. She was half-smiling when she reached the counter. Dinaluhan siya ng isa sa mga staff naming si Paolo. Busy siguro si Diego kaya heto at siya ang nag-aasikaso kay Cody.

"It's Cody's monthly check up.." hanggang doon lamang ang narinig ko dahil bumalik na ako sa aking swivel chair at ipinagpatuloy ang naudlot na gawain kanina.

Good thing that my vision is doing okay now unlike what happened earlier. I just don't understand why it happens arbitrarily.

Even though I kept myself preoccupied, I can still sense Dani's occasional glances at me. She's peering over the counter and everytime I try to glimpse, she would look somewhere else.

Sinadya kong bumuntong-hininga. Pakiramdam ko ay may kailangan siya sa akin, nahihiya lang siyang sabihin o i-approach ako.

"I remember you.." that was the time she broke her silence. I don't want to assume that she's referring to me so I acted baffled. "You are my baby brother's... friend, right? The professor?" dagdag pa niya.

If I could recall it correctly, she works in Cebu but she returned here to help their father in his campaign for governorship. Umakto ako na parang nakilala siya kalaunan.

"Yeah. Ikaw pala. What brought you here? Do you need help?" nagpanggap pa akong hindi alam ang pakay niya upang may masabi lamang ako.

Besides, I don't really know what to tell her after she caught me a while ago with the city mayor. Dumapo ang paningin niya sa isang staff na nagdala kay Cody.

"No, I'm fine. It's Cody's check up today. Diego's off to somewhere, I don't know where but probably he's playing ball. Kaya ako ang nautusan." she shrugged her shoulders and smiled, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.
