Chapter Thirteen - Conversation

Matsumae walks across the halls of the mansion ever so carefully. Arms hidden behind her back, her chin facing up and her soft smile unmoving. Soon enough, she is met with Kanae.

"Matsumae, you doing well?" The female smirked, revealing the four eyeballs. She giggled lightly. "Takizawa gave me his eyeballs, so I thought since this is basically your favorite part, that maybe we could share." Kanae scoffed.

"With you, of course I would love that!" Matsumae smiled warmly, handing over two of the orbs. Both she and Kanae lean against the closest wall, with Kanae licking and tasting the savory taste of the eyeball. "So...you two are getting all buddy-buddy now, huh?" The male asked.

Matsumae sighs. "Kanae-!" "Because I know I shouldn't really care, but what is it about him that...you're so fond of?" Matsumae chuckles softly, smirking and full of smug.

"Why, are you interested~?" Kanae scoffs, and lifts his chin up to the opposite direction. "Of course not, you already know me enough to..." Matsumae nods. "Yeah, of I course I know. After all, what kind of friend would I be anyway if I didn't?"

Matsumae smiles and sighs. "But to answer your question... I guess I like his energy, even if you can't see it, it is there. He just needs time to warm up to us." Kanae tilts his head. "Interesting..."

Kanae places the eyeball gently upon his tongue, eating it whole. Matsumae takes a single bite out of hers. "Though, I do have a question for you... Do you think Takizawa should know...?" Kanae turned his face towards the female. "Know what?" "Should he know about you?"

Kanae suddenly gasps and blushes a deep red. "O-OF COURSE NOT! Why should he know?! The only reason I would let him know, is that it was...unavoidable. So please, don't let him know!" Matsumae nods in complete understanding. "Got it, my lips are shut!"

Kanae scoffs. "Good."

Matsumae sighs, finishing off one of her eyeballs. She turns to Kanae, wearing a serious expression. "Seriously though, are you going to give Takizawa a chance and get to know him? You know, actually talk with him?" 

The male scoffs. "The truth is Matsumae, there's something about him I...don't trust. Like as if he was my mortal enemy in a past life or something, it feels almost too...familiar?" "Mortal enemy? Past life? Don't tell me you honestly believe in such a thing Kanae." Kanae shrugs. "Not really, but I just have this...feeling, you know? Like my body or brain is telling me to get the hell away from him."

Matsumae sighs. "Well, he is your prize, so of course you have to help him learn about his place here. He's now a member of this family, so-!" "Don't call him that, he's not a part of us!" "Kanae, he really doesn't seem that bad, so just learn to actually talk to him." Kanae growls harshly.

"Fine, but only because you asked me to. Though, maybe he isn't that pleased with me either. After all...I did upset him." Matsumae stands up straight and clears her throat.

"Kanae, that wasn't completely your fault. How were you supposed to know he would react that way? I mean we've been over this again and again ever since Takizawa got here, but...we've just met him. The truth of the matter is, we don't really know anything about him, and there's a good chance that there are just some things we'll never know about him. But that's alright, as long as we make him feel safe as a new member of this household, it should be fine."

Kanae lets a single tear drop fall, quickly wiping it away. "Kanae...are you-?" "I didn't mean for him to freak out like that, I just...wanted him to listen to me..." Matsumae sighs deeply, placing her hand onto the male's shoulder.

"I know, and I know you weren't really going to hurt him. You aren't the type to harm anyone who is an actual member of this household, you don't have it in you."

Kanae holds his hands out in front of himself, tossing his last eyeball snack into his mouth. Looking at the hands in front of him, he begins speaking yet again.

"But Matsumae, if only you've seen him like that...in that state. Something about the way he just hid himself, begging me not to do it, in such a way even I can't describe. Like I've heard people beg just to keep their lives, but him..." The male quivers. "It was almost as if me doing that to him was far worse in his eyes." Kanae makes eye contact with the female.

"He went from feisty to miserable, all in a snap. I never want to do that to anyone who begged like he did..." Matsumae wears a saddened expression, while Kanae scoffs. "Forget it, I sound ridiculous!" "You did tell him you weren't going to do it again, didn't you?" Kanae simply scoffed.

"Of course I did, he would've never spoken to me ever again if I didn't." Matsumae throws her remaining eyeball into her mouth, before placing her hand gently onto Kanae's.

"Listen, I know you feel angry sometimes, and I know you mostly have your great moments, but I have to tell you that...you shouldn't be so harsh with yourself. You're truly sorry, and I see that. So I'm pretty sure Takizawa saw it too, and I'm sure he would forgive you."

Kanae scoffs. "I'm not looking for forgiveness with him, it was nothing like that. I just thought...it was the right thing to do..." Matsumae smiles warmly. "You thought right. Come on, we should go."

Kanae sighs deeply. "You don't have to tell me twice!"
