"Come on Cade," I called out as we ran towards the lot.

I turned my head around to see him slightly behind me, panting.

"I'm not used to all this running," he gasped which made me giggle.

We finally arrived and flopped down together, me snuggled into him.

"I'm carrying a basket and I still beat you," I said playfully.

"Yeah, well, that's because I let you win," he replied, trying to look cool.

"As you wish Johnnycake," I said which made him smile.

I laid the blanket out and unpacked our food, both of us hungry.

It was just past midnight, the sky was pitch black but was dotted with bright stars and the moonlight shined on us.

"Y/n, do you think there's more to life than just greasers and socs?" Johnny asked curiously as he bit into his sandwich.

I looked at him and nodded my head slowly.

"There's the whole world out there for you, it's your oyster," I replied, giving him a sense of hope.

I knew he had never been outside of Tulsa and that he longed for a life that was different from his own.

"Why don't we dance?" He asked, holding his hand in mine.

"But there's no music-" I began and he smiled. "Doesn't matter to me."

We stood up and I wrapped my arms around his neck and he placed his hands on my hips, swaying together.

His soft eyes stared into mine as he suddenly cupped my face.

"Y/n?"

"Hm?" 

"I really want to kiss you right now" He breathed out.

A big smile etched on my face as I brushed his long greasy hair out of his face.

"Well, you don't have to wait any longer," I said.

I leaned in and placed my lips on his, I felt him instantly melt into my embrace. His fingers then curled through my locks for a moment before we pulled apart, his head rested against mine,

"Thank you for the best time of my life," he said sweetly.

"Thank you, Johnny Cade, for the best time of my life."
