A/N: I loved it when Andrew talked about his love for Pentatonix and specifically their song "That's Christmas to Me" on the Sweet Boys Podcast. I thought it was so cute, and it made me love him more! Imagine how precious he must be in a Christmas sweater, all cozy! Anyway, Happy Holidays and enjoy! :)
Y/N sat quietly on her couch, staring at her phone. She couldn't remember the last time she'd felt so sad. She'd just gotten off the phone with her mother and she honestly felt like crying. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she just couldn't believe that she'd be spending it alone at her apartment.
She was in her second year of her medical residency, and by this point, she was used to working around the clock. The pretty New York native had been thrilled when she was accepted as a surgical resident at prestigious Cedar Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, and while her job in the ER was hectic and crazy, she generally felt like she was making a difference as she worked to perfect her skills in vascular surgery.
Y/N had pretty much resigned herself to the fact that there was no way she'd be in New York with her parents and younger brother that year, as residents rarely got more than 24 hours off at a time. Her family had made plans to spend Christmas in L.A. that year so she could see them, and she was beyond grateful to them for arranging their schedules around hers. But then her mom had called her that morning, letting her know that something had come up with her father's business which would make it impossible for them to leave the city, and while Y/N tried hard not to show her disappointment, not wanting to make her mother feel even worse than she already did, she couldn't help but dissolve into tears as she sat on her couch alone, thinking about the potential for a solitary Christmas.
As she sat there crying, her roommate Alison came home from her job as a segment producer on the Drew Barrymore Show, and she was alarmed when she found Y/N sobbing in the living room. Alison felt awful for her roommate and best friend, and she immediately offered to have Y/N come home with her to Las Vegas, but there was no way she could. She was due to be at the hospital for her residency on Christmas Day at 3 pm, not giving her much time to celebrate. She thanked Alison wryly and did a mental accounting of all her friends, trying to think if any would be in L.A. and able to hang out with her, but there was no one. It was fate. She'd be home alone eating Chinese Food and watching reality TV for Christmas that year.
As Y/N sat vacantly, barely watching a Real Housewives reunion on Bravo, she got a text from her best male friend Andrew. She'd met the redheaded videographer from Illinois several years prior, when she was a medical student at UCLA. She had briefly dated his friend Jack Dytrych, and while she and Jack had amicably parted, Y/N was still in the friend group. She and Andrew had taken to each other from the first minute they had met, and Andrew was one of the sweetest and most loyal friends she'd ever had. Even seeing the handsome redhead's contact on her screen made her feel calmer, and she smiled thinking about how he could always improve her mood. He had texted asking if she was free to grab a quick dinner with him, and she was game, as she didn't have to be at the hospital until 9 that night.
She responded that she'd love to meet and then ran upstairs to change into her green surgical scrubs before driving over to the West Hollywood cafe Andrew had suggested, and she grinned broadly when she saw her best friend sitting there at a table by the window, waiting for her. He flashed her a broad genuine grin, and she smiled to herself at how sweet he was.
She walked up to the table and Andrew stood up and pulled her into a kind hug, and she immediately melted into his chest. "Hey Y/N!" Andrew said in his trademark soft-spoken voice, and Y/N smiled. "Hey Andy," she said, trying to mask her depressed attitude, and Andrew tilted his head at her a little. "Are you OK?" he asked immediately, as he could read her so well. She shrugged a little, looking down at her feet.
