Andrew was bored out of his mind. Ever since the docuseries on the beauty industry came out, along with the successful launch of the makeup collection and Shane's new merch, Andrew and Shane had been idle. At first it was just a much-needed vacation after months of filming and editing, and Andrew was relieved to have time to himself. For the first month, he spent all his time in his pajamas, hanging at his apartment, sleeping in his own bed rather than at Shane's, and spending every possible free minute with his girlfriend of a year Y/N, a medical student at UCLA. Andrew and Y/N caught up on date nights, went hiking in the Hills, and hung out at the beach. But after Y/N's holiday break from school was over, she had to resume classes and her busy life. Since then, Andrew had started to get restless.
Overnight, it seemed, Andrew and Shane had become two guys with a lot of money and not a lot of creative ideas. Shane seemed creatively stifled, unable to come up with something he was passionate about, and riddled with self-doubt about his appearance and his ability to follow the docuseries with something better, despite just recently celebrating his most successful launch to date. Andrew, always the supportive friend and colleague, felt bad for Shane, and he knew that without an idea that he could completely throw himself into, it was pointless for Shane to start filming anything. Andrew encouraged his friend daily, reassuring him that they'd find their creative groove again, and repeating over and over that Shane deserved a break and that he shouldn't feel pressured to post anything if he wasn't in love with it.
Still, the lack of ideas brought a lack of structure to Andrew's days, and structure was what he thrived on. He spent his days watching every Netflix true crime documentary out there, he hiked and ran every day, getting into the best shape of his life, and he even started brushing up on his cooking, binge-watching Gordon Ramsey cooking videos and copying their every move. He read and re-read his favorite novels, mostly historical non-fiction and books about the mafia. He helped Garrett and Caleb make a ridiculous baby-themed rap song and watched with amusement as it shot up to the top of Spotify's charts. He went on his friends' podcasts and did YouTuber Reacts videos. He even went to home to Algonquin and visited his parents for an entire week, the longest he'd been home without a major holiday since he moved to Los Angeles. But it wasn't enough to keep his mind occupied.
One day he was sat on the couch in Y/N's Westwood apartment, flipping through Hulu to decide which old season of the Bachelor to watch as Y/N and her roommate Kaley sat at the kitchen table, sipping Starbucks and going through hundreds of pages of notes on their epidemiology class to prepare for an exam. As the girls quizzed each other and made notecards, Andrew sighed to himself. He walked behind Y/N and put his arms around her narrow shoulders, kissing her cheek softly and rubbing her neck. She smiled up at him, thanking him for volunteering to run to Starbucks for them for what felt like the 100th time. "You're so lucky you have Andrew to support you, Y/N," Kaley said dreamily as she glanced up at Andrew, watching him as he padded back to the kitchen to look for a snack. Kaley's boyfriend Rob was a lawyer at a Big 100 Law Firm, and he worked 100 hours per week. "Andrew is so sweet and supportive of you."
"He totally is," Y/N said, smiling to herself as she watched her red-headed boyfriend walk back to the living room. "But I think he's starting to drive himself insane. If he doesn't go back to work soon, I'm afraid he's going to go crazy."
That night, as they lay together in Y/N's bed, Y/N curled up into Andrew's chest, she brought it up with him. "Baby," she said quietly, "I'm a little bit worried about you."
"Why Princess?" he asked her sweetly, using his pet name for her that made her melt inside.
"I'm just concerned because you went from working and editing like a million hours a day to hanging out idle. You're such a get up and go kind of guy, and believe me, I wish we could hang out in bed all day and just watch Netflix and make out," she said slyly, smiling up at him with a devilish grin as he giggled to himself, "but with my school getting so hectic and stuff, I just worry you aren't keeping busy enough. Do you think Shane will be ready to start something new soon?"
