Garrett stood nervously in front of the full-length mirror hanging from the bathroom door in Andrew's apartment. He ran his hair through his soft sandy hair, smoothing his shirt and looking at his reflection with a frown. He chewed on his lip as Andrew walked in nonchalantly from the kitchen and glanced at his friend.
"What are you still doing in here buddy?" the red-headed cameraman asked his giant teddy bear of a best friend. "You've been standing there forever." He knew the answer, of course, given Garrett's dating history and his general demeanor, but he still wanted to hear Garrett voice it.
"I'm nervous Andrew!" Garrett almost shrieked. "This is the first guy I've liked in a long time. And he asked me on an actual date-date! I want it to go well." Andrew shook his head slightly. "You guys have been on like three dates already Garrett. Why wouldn't it go well?" Garrett rolled his eyes at Andrew's lack of concern. "Yeah, we went to like lunch and coffee, but this is a carnival. Like, a REAL outing. What if I say something dumb or weird and Tyson realizes that I'm not that great?"
Andrew smiled at his buddy, patting his shoulder. "Tyson is lucky to hang out with you! And let's be honest, he likes you, so he's probably as weird as you are." He flashed Garrett his famous pearly white grin and laughed his famous cackle as he teased his friend. Garrett didn't laugh. "You're my best friend, so how weird does that make you?" he asked Andrew in an exasperated tone, and Andrew could sense the tension his friend was feeling. "Oh 100%, I'm a total weirdo," he said with a grin, making Garrett giggle a little bit. "Honestly, Gare, it will be fine. Tyson obviously likes you, this carnival thing was his idea."
It was true. Ever since Garrett had met Tyson, the short athletic accountant with dark hair and tanned skin, at a Harry Potter-themed book store in Hollywood about a month ago, the guy had been all Garrett could think about. And it seemed like the feeling was mutual, as Tyson had been nothing but a gentleman since the start. It had been so long since Garrett was interested in anyone, and for the guy to actually be nice? He couldn't believe his good fortune. Andrew had met Tyson once and had to agree that he was a good guy. Though he liked teasing Garrett about it, the truth was that Andrew was thrilled for his friend, being that it was the first time he'd been happy with someone in forever.
As Andrew went to his dresser to pick out some gym clothes, planning to head out for a run after Garrett left for his date, Garrett gasped as he saw a text from his new crush on his phone. "Crap, it's Tyson!" he yelled out to Andrew. "Ugh, I bet he's cancelling. I knew he was too good to be true!" He groaned to himself, and Andrew raised an eyebrow. "Is that what the text says?" he asked his friend. "Well, I haven't read it yet," Garrett responded, and Andrew rolled his eyes. "Why not read it before having an aneurysm," Andrew suggested, giggling a little bit.
"Oh, thank god!" Garrett said, clutching the phone. "He's not cancelling, but he says his cousin is in town and he's wondering if he can bring her. Ugh, that doesn't sound romantic at all!" He shook his head a little bit in disgust as Andrew came over to him. "It's not that bad. At least he doesn't mind you meeting a family member. " Garrett gave him a funny look. "You always think of the silver lining," he told his ginger friend with pretend annoyance. As he was stressing over the text, his phone dinged and another text came through. "Oh my god!" Garrett screeched. Andrew looked at him inquisitively. "Tyson wants to know if I can bring a friend so his cousin doesn't feel like a third wheel." Andrew grinned at him. "That's positive! It means he wants to hang out with you without the cousin distracting." Just as Andrew was about to continue to go about getting ready for his run, Garrett looked at his best friend with big puppy dog eyes.
"Oh no-o!" Andrew said, putting his hand up in protest. "I know that look. You want me to be the friend don't you?" He made a face as Garrett smiled widely. "Please Andrew, you know how important this carnival date is to me. Come on, I'd do it for you." Andrew thought for a minute. "Come on Gare, how awkward is that going to be?!?" Garrett put his hands up in prayer, pretend begging Andrew until he caved. "Please, I'll bring you Starbies for a week!" Garrett begged, and Andrew let out a sigh. "OK, OK, but this is the only time I am doing this. I like Tyson and everything but what if his cousin loves Harry Potter as much as he does? He face palmed as Garrett laughed dreamily, that being one of his favorite things about Tyson.
